The data is outdated - payouts were seriously boosted since then. Here is the updated version:

when i go out i map everything but that is what i do, as they say every penny helps.
but i do not prob everything.
sum people only search for earth likes and that is all they look for. or they only look for the higher paying worlds.
after 600 jumps into the deep you do start to wonder should i keep scanning everything lol
FSS = Full Spectrum System Scanner
DSS = Detailed Surface Scanner
FD = ?
Honk = Discovery Scanner
Terr. = ?
FSS: The sensor you use in Supercruise to locate and identify signals and polanetary bodies in the system. All ships have it equipped as standard.
DSS: This sensor is used to map specific bodies, fins points of interests and mining hotspots, and increases the value of the exploration data. This one HAS to be installed by the user in an optional slot.
FD: Frontier Developments, the development studios for this game
Honk, Discovery scanner: the Old ways in which exploration was done, now obsolete.
Terr: Probably referring to Terraformable, being one of the types of planets you can enconuter (and certainly one that's worth quite a few credits to scan)
This can't be right, though, as it's one of the categories on the discovery chart linked above. You get different values for FSS, FSS+FD, FSS+DSS, and FSS+FD+DSS, so I suspect it's another kind of scanner, but I don't know which.
That seems reasonable. On the chart, planets with "terr" are worth a lot more than the equivalent without.
Thanks. I guees i missed the context ;)
My question was somewhat rhetorical. I'm the same way, I have to almost physically restrain myself to keep from spending hours mapping every single body in every single system. But going around and seeing everything is probably what I enjoy most in the game. Hell, I'd land om them all and drive around a bit if there were enough hours in the day.
But mapping landable planets doesn't really get you anything more than mapping atmospherics, just a bit of extra money vs a more basic scan. Most of the ones you can land on are pretty much useless dead rocks, the biggest bonuses come from ones you can't. It shows you where the occasionally-interesting geological sites are which is helpful if you're looking for materials but you can find those with a detailed FSS scan too and save the time of flying all the way out to see an empty world or twelve..
(exploration, mining, mercenary, explanation of icon meanings etc etc)
They contain tonnes of information about everything in the game.
Why this isn't being conveyed from the start is a mystery tho.
Ah, that makes sense. Thanks!
i have a bad desire just too complete all codex in each system and scanning all the way gets to be a bit crazy , now back at the bubble to build a better exploration ship. just wish the anaconda could hold a adder that would complete my explore build.
need to engineer the crap out of the conda so i can maybe mine sum rings or do other things just too break up the madness.
i flew to hutton the other day as i was getting bored in the bubble , need to get back out soon lol
