and you can use the camera suite at any time (although it's probably not a good idea to use it in combat)
From here, you have control of the ship. You can't do much to be honest, but can turn, activate boost etc, and you'll see it. Using n for next and p for previous (default) you can switch about a few views, while still maintaining control of the ship.
Then there is free mode - you need to bind another key for this. From here, you can move the cam about your ship, zoom out, pan etc etc, but you have no control over the ship.
The free mode can be used better if you want to take screenies of the ship docking etc if you use a docking computer. Once the docking kicks in, switch to the free cam mode, position the cam and snap away. Out in deep space, you're usually pretty safe in the free mode, if you want to pic stars, planets etc. Pushing the same button to enter the camera suite should exit it.
Pro tip: you can enter the cam suite mode, the push n until it cycles to the cockpit view. Press the key bind for free cam mode and you can still pan the camera right and left. It is possible to get a very nice view of your pilot, most of the dash and a decent front view out of the ship :)
a) in higher difficulties you NEED to use FA/off (so you're a turret, lol.)
b) there isn't any real multiplayer pvp because no one cares (and if you're a fool and playing online while doing your thing you get ganked by overpowered guys, so no one want this -> playing SP)
and c) you can't see your SHINY REAL MONEY PAINTJOBS because you just sit in your cockpit ...
If they would implement 3rd person I would gladly play this game, but I really hate cockpits haha ^^
I really hope Everspace 2 will be like Freelancer ;_;
If you don't like cockpits, then why do you play the game that puts you in it? There are other games that let you to float like a ghost.
;)
You're a lot more than just a turret if you know how to fly FA off properly.
Wrong. I pretty much only play in open (unless I'm feeling antisocial), and I rarely have any problems...
Wrong again. I see my Anaconda's and Krait's paintjobs frequently, whenever I'm in my SLF. And other people can see them...
Then you're playing the wrong game. This game is built around you being a pilot sat in the cockpit of your spaceship. 3rd person view gives a greater advantage with extra peripheral vision, which would be unfair to pilots using 1st person view.
Good for you.
I played the game for some time, I really liked the trading and exploration part of it, but I never liked the combat, multiplayer or pirate/smuggling part of the game so I quit - for me, there are only some tweaks necessary to enjoy the game, but they will never happen, so whatever ^^
