So.. is the CODE still a thing?
Like the title states.. Are they still a thing? Haven't heard much of them for a while. Are they done with terrorising players?

Wrong game. Those morons couldn't handle ED, so they went back to their suicide ganks in Hi-Sec EVE Online. Ya know, there's always solo if you want to avoid other players. There's always Mobius when you want players but not PvP. If you go into open, CODE or not, there's still those handful that just have to shoot because they can despite no one else being interested. And as long as there is no real Crime vs Punishment mechanic in ED, I wont go to open.

there are still plenty of both professional and amature gank squads in Elite. Fortunately unlike EVE there's private groups.

ED code are not EvE code.

And yes OP, they are still around, although not as big as they used to be. The more... erm.... agressive Code members switched to SDC when they came about.

But the code guys are generally speaking some of the most decent pirates in the game. If you submit to them and give them cargo (and in my experience it was usually reasonable demands) then they would let you go.

Was once interdicterd by 4 of them and all they wanted from me was 4 tons of beer which i was hauling.

No, CODE ED are pirates, like, actual pirates that ask for cargo at gunpoint and aren't murder bums

So then they should've used a different name? IDK, like, NOTTHEREALCODE?

Why? They live by the pirate's code, that's the reasoning

Because the name is used by a different group of people in a different game.... It's like, if I become and actor, but then take Denzel Washingtons name, just to get recognition.

/disclaimer - I have no clue who Code is... in either game.

/2cents
A group calling themselves... whatever... in one game is not a name reservation that nobody in other games can use. Not fair... not fair at all. Especially in a case where the name is a single word. That's not to say some names aren't unique and wouldn't confuse some people, but Code? No... not at all... imo.

imo the code i knew in elite were a respectable pirate group who for the most part, behaved as you would expect a pirate to behave. i rather enjoyed thier attempts to pirate me and very much enjoyed fighting them while protecting the local CG truckers. with the new ban system, they kind of died off. banning a player used to only disable comms with them. now it prevents the player from ever entering your instance :(

According to devs, it never changed how it was working. My guess is, because early on people would sometimes see blocked people they assumed it didn't block them from instancing with them.

This was correct and is still correct. It doesn't block instancing. It just tries to avoid putting you in the same instance.

Example, 3 players, A, B, and C.

A blocks B.

A and B are in the same system, nobody else there. A will not be instanced with B.

A and C are in the same system. B jumps in. Because C doesn't have B blocked, then B can instance with C, which also allows them to be instanced with A.

Its basically a question of whose preferences should be obeyed. If A's preferences are taking into account, then person A could block tons of people they don't like, sit in a system and then stop anyone else in that system from instancing with anyone person A doesn't like.... but at the end of the day, this is Open, not a private group. So to quite Star Trek, the needs of the many outweight the needs of the few, and its understandably why FD made it the way they did.

It also works in that if a person is being a genuine arse and annoys everyone, then everyone blocks them, then they don't get to instance with anyone in that system.

but this system is frequently abused. many who experienced a loss blocked those players if they were seen again, and the pirates only had gain when someone had a loss, so targets would become less frequent every day untill the next batch of new cmdrs on sale week lol in any case, pvp pirate life is not now, what it seemed to be in 1.5. maybe its just me lol :)

If people are blocking you, then just accept those people don't want to play with you. Its not just ED, many games have block features. Xbox has a system wide block feature, you can block people from not just individual games but from all games.

If you want regular, challenging, fun, no-tears PvP, join the PvP hub. People always up for a fight. I lost close to 50 million in rebuys in one evening :D

the function diminishes the mode of open. period. we are talking about piracy specificly not pvp as a whole.pirates dont pirate friends or meet in a forum to set up a pirating duel. this is just a stupid suggestion. my point was and remains that piracy is all but dead due to this blocking function. its no longer fun since you know you will mostly likely never see the target again, or the target becomes a friend and is no longer an interesting piracy target.
