Are there any methods to speed up supercruise speed?
Not counting the distance from stellar bodies and stars.

By letting stars and planets to be as far from you as possible - their gravity slows the supercruise speed down.

Other than that you can only increase a perceived speed, by playing a movie on another screen, while supercruise.

so upgrading powerplant, fsd, thrusters or power distributor does jack sh--?

You need to map the key for ludicrous speed.

Correct.

No, it helps with other aspects. But not with the space compression of your FSD.

Not for supercruise at least. You can't make supercruise itself faster, but there is a trick to travel at full speed and jump out without over/under shooting it.

All you need to do is bind one key for 100% throttle, and another at 75%.

Per the video description:

"Travel at 100% throttle and reduce to 75% before seeing 0:06 seconds remaining. Then slowly increase the throttle back to 100% keeping the speed and distance indicators together to hit 1Mm/s at the same time as hitting 1Mm."

I've used this trick for years and it still works great, though I normally do not bother with increasing the throttle back to 100%, as it seems a bit counter-producitve to what I orginally wanted from this trick: supercrusing with as little throttle changing as possible. If you just wait out after the 0:06, (providing your timing was accurate, though I find :07 to be safer, :06 there's a very small margin of not making it) you should match out your speed and distance without having to do anything else, every time.

I've also found out this works for those random signals you find while in supercruise. As long as you hit 75% throttle before 0:06/:0:07 you'll make it.

I've been using the 7 second rule for a long time. When the counter drops to 7, hit X to kill the throttle, then increase to the lower blue zone, and adjust until it hangs on 7 all the way in. If it ticks up to 6, you can correct it by easing off the throttle, but 5 is almost always unrecoverable.

You win the thread.
Better just hit "c" (75% throttle, middle of the blue zone in a supercruise), and it will keep your ship in a comfortable 6 secs slow-down, no need to adjust it any further.

I was hoping I'd be able to 'slingshot' around planets using a gradual approach to build up speed then get right near the planet before launching my ship away near the escape vector. KSP taught me that manouver, but Noooo your ship has to automatically adjust speeds for nearing large masses.

That Maneuver would work if the ship was being propulsed through normal space but seeing as Frame Shift drives propulse you into a pocket of witchspace allowing the ship to move at speeds up to 2001x the speed of light such a maneuver can’t work. Mass slows the drive. Though you can use planets to slow you down if you pass close enough to the planet and swing around to keep you from overshooting your destination.

Ugh I was hoping this'd changed with a relook. The supercruise mechanic just bores the life out of me, have they hinted at changing that with any upcoming patches?

Nope, Space is Vast therefore traveling through it will take some time
