(NPCs are not instanced though, which is why a ship that jumps out and then back in is at full health and shields, and the ship you chased down after they went to super cruise and interdicted is at full health and shields. The game simply spawns the representing NPC in each mode.)
I know about bountys, still its very stupid how many deserters there are. 2\3 ships try to flee when low health. There should be SO many "kill deserter" missions...
Its also encouraged me to get better at using my Plasma Acc to nuke the drives and FSD early in the fight.
I do wish penetrative weapons did more module damage on NPCs. It is RARE to NEVER in a CZ that I can completely destroy a single system module before the NPC dies from hull damage. Drives on big slow ships are about the only ones that I recall, and it has earned me a couple of bounties that would have got away otherwise.
You should maybe learn a thing or two about what you're going to complain about before you call it unrealistic. Modern military forces don't expect wounded soldiers or those with badly damaged equipment to stay and fight. Throwing people into the grinder is a good way to lose a war. Wounded personnel are evacuated, damaged tanks, planes and ships are pulled back for repairs. No point in sticking around if you can't fight.
