I really like the Cobra Mk3
I'm not into that sort of thing.
Off topic too. ;)
Absoloutely not! I'm a big fan of the CM4.
Here is my baby. Unfortunately no coriolis link, been planning on using EDDI to generate one.
Configured for piracy. 3 small lasers and 2 canons with high yield shells. Engines are grade 5 dirty drives, she can boost at almost 400 m/s. She's a beauty.

People have no idea what they are talking about.
A small ship with 8 internal slots? That's just awesomesauce. Yeah, its got its limitations, all ships have, but its a great little ship for piracy, mining, exploration, trading, or mission running. If it had 2 extra utility slots it would be almost perfect.
Yeah!
T9!
It will blow you away no matter how skillfull you are! :D
Indeed. They can make any ship perform much better. For PvP its not much help, but for PvE it can make a real difference.
I do plan on getting more components for DD5 to try and get that speed even higher. Might take quite a few rolls though, it was a pretty decent roll i got, but if i can get a decent secondary mod it might get it over 400.
Modding the Cobra MkIV sounds like an itch. My Clipper is actually halfway to Maya in order to buy some meta alloys. Say, how many hours did you spend modding the MkIV, AA? Dozens, hundreds?
LOL, not hundreds.
And i didn't just mod the CM4. I've got quite a stable of modded ships now.
There are like 3 stages you go through:
1) Unlocking the engineers you want (and some require you to raise your rep with others before you can access them)
2) Raising your rep with the engineers to access the top mods
3) Actually getting the materials you need and making the upgrades.
Fair warning, it can be highly frustrating at times, especially if you have to do things you do not generally do or like doing in the game. On the up side, it does get you doing lots of different activities.
I still haven't unlocked all Engineers or all ranks, but i've done enough to get most of my ships to where i want them. All have max FSD ranges and all have either DD or CD 5 tuning. Most have multiple other modifications as well, to powerplant, shields, shield boosters, distributors, etc. And of course combat ships have got modified weapons, mainly rank 1 stuff though.
How long?
Well, i play on average an hour or two a day. I already qualified for meeting many of them (exploration, mining, black market trade etc requirements). Took me about 1 month to get the engineers unlocked and most ships decently upgraded. Then on and off, while doing other things, i've continued to tweak the ships, sold a couple, bought a couple more.
Basically, once you have everything unlocked and have learnt how to find the various components, you can fairly quickly upgrade most of what you want.
Another fair warning, unlocking Palin for the drive enhancements can be a real pain as you have to unlock and raise ranks with others first.
If that puts you off, instead just work on raising rank with Felicty Farseer and put grade 3 dirty/clean drives on your ship and see how you like it first.
Have anyone tried to mod a Type-6 yet? After the Cobra MkIII that is the second ship I have spent most time in, and loving that girl. Of course I won't be using her for long range smuggling ever again, but maybe shes got other uses as well.
