Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous

How to start with Horizons content?
So I picked up Horizons the other day at the end of the sale, and I'm not quite sure how to access the content.

It says the DLC is installed, I don't see any "horisons" content in the launcher, and if I load the game as normal, I can't seem to land on a rocky body planet, as I get repulsed by the planet if fly close enough to drop into orbit.

How do I access the content? 0_o

you gotta start the horizons launcher... did you unlock it on the frontier site? I dont use steam but I think you need to unlock it first...

You can't land on any planet. The earth for instance, you can't. Find a planet in your system map with the blue outline on a planet plus 3 blue lines. There are stations you can land on. But you can land on these planets anywhere else.
But first go to the next outfitter and buy yourself a srv bay with an srv. So when you land on the planet, you are able to drive around in your srv buggy.

There has to be the horizon option in the frist screen before entering the launcher.

Ok, so I need a separate launcher? The heck, why doesn't steam update the regular launcher to the one that can play the new content I just bought? 0_o It's confusing layout.

Hi there!

With -Horizons- installed, you'll need a ship fitted with a planetary approach suite (which your pre hoizons ships don't have).

From: http://www.tentonhammer.com/guides/planetary-landings-guide-elite-dangerous-horizons
"You'll need a planetary landings outfit purchased at any station (mine was already on my ship) and if you want an SRV, you'll need to use one of your extra accessory slots to equip one. Go ahead and do that before you fly to a planet."

So to fit a rover (SRV), you need some internal compartment space (which is iirc the reason, why the horizons sidewinder has less cargo space, but a roverhangar installed).

I'm also in the process of coming back to ED with horizons and undusting my flight stick
as i just purchased -Horizons- on the "black friday" deal... ^ - ^

Does anyone know, which code to insert (ED or Horizons CD-key) when making a new
account with Frontier from a steam bought ED?
As i have ED+Horizons already installed on my machine, i don't want to have it twice on my drive... ;)

My old account was bought directly with FrontierDev but my steam licensed (ED + Horizons) is still untouched...

Regards, Kerulon

If you have installed the horizons update, and it won't show up as an option to select before entering the launcher. Please restart steam one time. Maybe thats the issue. I had that problem in assetto corsa after installing dlc.

Ok that here will be your problem:

same discussion, you need to activate the key.

Yea restart steam and find Elite Dangerous Horizon in your steam library. You have to start it from there. then u will see code which u have to copy and then unlock it on Frontline site (with this code)... then just restart steam again and just regulary open Elite dangerous and pick Horizon... Now u should be able to land on Moons, Planets...

Remember you still get the option to run the game without Horizons, even if it is installed.

Once the key has been entered, take a second to locate and select Horizons; if I remember right, the launcher button at the bottom left turns from orange to blue to indicate you can launch Horizons, if desired.
If you click from the PLAY link in your steam library page of ED you should get 3 options.(ED/Horizons/VR)

From what I remember it will direct you to FD website where you can create or login to unlock Horizons.

I deleted(make sure you delete it not try to copy over) the old ED shortcut from my desktop and replaced it with a new shortcut via right clicking elite dangerous on your library list and choosing create desktop shortcut.

If all is well you will see a blue bordered launcher. Good Luck CMDR!

Whats the colour of your launcher, orange or blue?

You need to activate Horizons on the frontier site.
It doesn't matter what Steam thinks you have. Frontier needs to know.
When registered you should be able to select Horizons from steam and the blue launcher should start.

There won't be an additional download for Horizons because you already have the content with the 64bit version of ED.

Also EVERY ship has the planetary approach suite, so there's no ship restriction
