full HD projector vs full HD 3d dlp projector vs oculus DK2 for ED
Hi!
now i flying on my i7-2600k(@4.5GHz), gtx760 and old 800*600 100" screen dlp projector and want to change it, because screen resolution and text reading going me unhappy.

Does anyone have experience with 3d dlp projector and 3d glasses with ED?
will it be enough gtx 1060 for oculus rift DK2?

I have a few options. How do you think is a best thing?
1. change it to full HD
2. full hd projector and 3D glasses
3. oculus rift DK2

Dont ge the DK2! It will not see support going forward, it was a development version...

Get the commercial version of the Rift the CV1... otherwise you buy a hardware that will not work power at some point in time sooner rathe rthan later...

1060 will work

projector is nice I have one too but 3D glasses and the 3D not worth it... overall as nice as playing on a big projector image(i have a whole wall) it is NOTHING compared to sitting in the ship in the Rift!
I ran it with 3D glasses on my LG 3D TV, on GTX 960. 3D side by side runs as well, as a full screen version.

The problem with glasses is that you can't use them for very long, especially with headphones - the squeeze on your head becomes almost painful after a while. That's why I don't use them often, even that the experience is much better. Another problem with 3D side by side was a dropped resolution, as it was running in half-SBS. The text looked prismy-glassy.

I would go with a full VR set. Actually, I'm going to get one today. :)

Meh, I went the opposite route. Bought a GTX1080 and a $1200 WQHD with every possible option. It's old tech now, but the game looks ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ incredible.

If screen resolution is the most important thing you should go with a 4k monitor. It's the difference between looking through a screen door (Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, just about any other type of monitor and projector) and looking through clear glass. Not being able to see pixels has eliminated eye strain for me. From by personal preference at aiming for the best possible image the immersion is unmatched. I'm using a Titan X Superclocked with everything running at no less than 60fps maxed out. The 1080 should be more than capable.

I've seen incredible projectors at my workplace, but I can still *see* the pixels and text is never quite good enough. I never feel like it's as sharp as it could be. The huge price tag isn't worth it for gaming.

Exciting? The word doesn't even cover it! When I was just taking off from a station's pad, I remembered that I'm afraid of heights! :) My first thought was "No! I want to sit back down!" Everything is so huge! Absolutely different experience. The resolution is not like looking at a full HD screen, though. But that's probably to come in the future.

the thing with the resolution is that the brain will completly disregard the lack in resolution very soon...
and yeah I am still in total AWE every time I enter my spaceship in VR its the best thing that has hit gaming since 35 years of hardcore gamign for me! Nothing will ever come close! Its my childhood dream come true I own my own space ship!

I never in my wilsdest dreams expected to be able to play like this within my lifetime :) best thing EVER!! And I woudl pay 10K for just the HMD if I had to - its that much fun!

I have a 21:9 monitor 34" with high resolution, I cant go back to that.... its just total garbage to play looking onto a flat screen vs being in your ship and fully immersed into a world!

whats a WQHD?

A display with a 1440p resolution, about halfway between standard 1080p and 4K. They're perfect for gaming because they have a much higher refresh rate and much lower system requirements than 4K, but still look fantastic at short viewing distances and small screen sizes. Mine also has G-Sync, which pretty much kills screen tearing.

I will eventually get a 4K display, but I'm going to wait another few years first. The 1080 isn't quite powerful enough to run every game in 4K, there are a few that really struggle and DX12 won't help. I can't get a Titan because they don't sell Titans here, and if they did taxes would push the price past $3000.

oh you mean a 21:9 like I have, UltraWide 3440 x 1440?? Since I got the Rift, neve rplayed on it again its collecting Dust ;)

Its a gorgous monitor and I like th easpect ration much better than any 4K can offer! But is a joke compared to Elite in VR...

I never liked VR much, I'm not convinced the tech is ready to buy yet - I want to see it evolve more before I spend thousands on it.

well all I can say is its the best thing I ever bought in my life and I am a hardcore gamer since 35 years! Elite in VR is the best thing gaming has deliverd - period! i was sceptical too!

Since the second I logged in with the rift a few month ago i am blown away! I couldnt care less about the next generation! its so good, I can die a happy man now! I will play this until I die.. if they ever make better ones sure I buy them but I am not in a hurry its THAT AWESOME!

You are missing out buddy! You got a 1080 its not thousands to ge the hmd... but whatever floats your boat...

It's not worth it for just one game. I'm not as fond of Elite as you are; I'm content for now but I can barely justify buying a $90 joystick for it. Let alone a VR headset.

And besides, I fly a G3 Dirty Drive Vulture - I'd probably just end up feeling really dizzy and refunding the headset.
