Is the digital store for Elite Dangerous safe?

I know that sounds like a ridiculous question and I'm not even going to explain why it's a ridiculous question. But I am very paranoid about security. Bottom line question: Is it safe to input my Steam credentials when prompted to when I go to get free sunglasses for my CMDR?

Thank you for the reply. I know Frontier would never hijack a Steam account, but all sorts of scenarios enter my head. I'll have an entire bucket of sunglasses in my Anaconda, just like Albert Wesker has in his room.

By the way - I *highly* recommend bypassing steam when purchasing things from frontier when it comes to the vanity items like paintjobs, colored lasers, CMDR outfits, etc. Just go to "https://www.frontierstore.net/game-extras/elite-dangerous-game-extras.html", and log in there with your ED credentials that you use in the launcher. It's WAY easier.

Well, no store is 'safe' and all stores are safe. It's a continuum of risk. If you use Steam Guard MFA then you are mitigating your risk of account compromise to the strongest level they offer.

If you launch the game from steam, steam "carjacks" Fdev's game launcher so that you'd use steam's website for ED merchandise to buy stuff so that they get a %age from it.

This is the direct link to the original fdevs store: https://www.frontierstore.net/ that is provided when you start the launcher directly from the install folder, without steam overlay.

This is the carjacked link from steam's fdev store: https://steam.elitedangerous.com/en that you get when you start the launcher from steam, directly.

I'd recommend buying from the original FDEV store in order to fully support fdev and the game development instead of giving %ages to steam for nothing.

And ofc, you'll need your account name and password from the game's launcher to log in, not your steam log in.
