But I was in an extremely fast and maneuverable Asp... in a more heavy ship that's impossible I think.
We killed 2 btw.
Yeah I was kind of wondering about that, being in a Federal Dropship probably isn't doing me any favors. The armor and weapons loadout capacity is great and all, but the thing handles like a refrigerator full of bricks, trying to keep the Interceptor in LoS was just about impossible
- Scan the ship
- it apparently has some basic shielding, you need to remove that and then you can shoot the heart. Or maybe it's only a panic shield when one heart is destroyed.
- maybe you need to actually do some damage to the ship first so the heart is "exhausted" and shoot it then... not sure.
- after killing one heart take care. It gets more fierce every time one is killed. When the third is killed it uses the EMP to shut you down for 20s... good times.
- Watch the corrosion cloud when it pops
Killing one alone is pretty much impossible. If it doesn't kill you you will eventually run out of ammo.
With the asp I had to stay out the line of fire and do zoom and boom attacks... the Corvette and Condas tanked the damage.
2: Unleash all hell (AX missiles and whatever other weapons you got)
3: Once enough damage has been done, a random heart will start to glow, switch subtargets
until it's focused on that one, or no need if you've already got it targeted.
4: Once the heart is destroyed it will gain a shield. You do not need the AX missiles to bring
the shield down, normal weapons are fine.
5: Once the shield is down, repeat from step 2.
As someone else mentioned, avoid the caustic cloud when it dies, that ♥♥♥♥ is nasty.
i've been wondering if you can send a limpet to collect the stuff in the cloud after death....
Also, once one of the hearts starts glowing, AX weapons are not necessary to shoot the heart. regular weapons can be used for that as well as the "shield" that gets generated when a hear is destroyed.
when it goes all Palpatine, you get a "charging warning"....can you break off and put some distance between you?
I barely managed to knock out a heart before getting vaporized
Yes you can, I'm flying an FDL tho and my limpet is only class 3, so 1km range, it can just about get back to me before the caustic ♥♥♥♥ sticks to my hull.
just remember - (and this was more or less confirmed by Ed Lewis) there are at least TWO kinds of thargoids out there...and some of them are not really agressive an a lot easier to kill....those may be the ones we shouldn't be killing for....story reasons. The other ones (the darker ones) will kick your ass and have been seen wiping out multiple wings of players.
good to know! so there IS a way to avoid the cooties.....does the stuff you pick up cause damage or is it just engineer materials that doesn't take up space?
Not on my anaconda with unengineered drives... if you boost in time you should be able to i think
Ah, that actually makes a lot of sense, I thought that this one seemed substantially stronger than the one I fought earlier. Even knowing the new information I felt like I got shot down far faster, so maybe it was the more difficult variant.
It showed up as a cyclops variant after a scan, so is that the more aggressive version, then?
