Where can one find modified embedded firmware?
Looking for a quickish way to find them for weapon upgrades.

Surface Scan missions should allow you to get a hold of some, I think. Otherwise you've got to do planetary landing at secure outposts and do the data link scanning in an SRV, which is a massive pain (I think that's how I got mine :/)

Mission rewards for data delivery missions give MEF and CIF. I finished Empire a week or so ago because I wanted the Crack and didn't want to do base scans to get it. :)

*Edit* Disreguard what I said; now that I think about it, it might have been MCF not MEF.

I get cif AND mef data missions and other types of intell mission deliveries from sol a lot.

Yes. After having looked through my DATA stores I have 68 MEF and only 5 MCF, so i think I was right before the edit.

Mission rewards are still the easiest and probably the fastest way to get MEFs. I see a lot of them offering 2 MEFs for a simple transportation 1 jump away. I stopped deliberately taking those missions for MEFs, as I got around 80 now.

Tons of MEF as a mission reward, I always have way too much of the stuff (and it's for sure MEF and not MCF, though MCF is sometimes a mission reward too).

I farmed CIF and EFC via courier missions, since it's easy to stack 20 and drop them off. I board flipped and picked the missions that gave me the materials I wanted as first priority. You can get a ton of MEF and Biotech Conductors and lotsa other materials this way.
