Barnard's Loop Required Jump Distance
Question for you explorers from someone just starting:

I tried to plot a route to Barnard's Loop/ Orion Nebula and it failed each time. My AspX only has a jump distance of 32 LY, I was wondering what is the minimum jump distance I need to get to these places? It doesn't help that whole sectors are permit locked.

I went to the California Nebula instead, guess I need to pay Farseer another visit.

I recently went to Witch Head, I plotted the route under the galactic plane. Plot in smaller sections, 300-500Ly are maximum. Also, 32Ly is far enougn, if I remember correctly, you just need around 35Ly to get to Beagle Point.

I am also thinking about switching the AspX for a DBX. I stripped the Asp down to a flying gas tank but maybe it's better to use a lighter ship instead?

32ly on an Asp is pretty mediocre, but that can definitely get you to Barnard's Loop. The problem is the game's route plotter. That region has so many permit locked systems that the plotter just takes a few looks at what's going on over there and nopes out. Plot to a system nearby it and try manually jumping in.

An asp x can make it to Barnard loop without any Jump range issues, the big problem with getting there or anywhere in that sector of space is that you will have to weave around col 70 (or whatever it is) sector which is Permit Locked due to mysterious Potential thargoid reasons. A good bet for reaching Barnards loop would be to start from around Maia and head for the Orion Nebula then loop back to barnards loop, plotting around 200 ly legs

Nothing to do with your jump range.

See #4, there is a permit locked region you need to work around that sits between it and Sol. Either do the above or plot to half way, then go sideways a bit, then plot half way etc until you get there just working round the region

Yeah I discovered the permit lock while trying to plot a route to a star near Orion. Is there a reason the whole sector is permit locked?

Alien breeding grounds.

Ah, they gotta keep that Teen rating.

Speculation it is Goid central. It used to actually be open (I've been through it many times) and there are lots of other permit locked regions too. The prevailing thought is the devs were going to have the aliens further away. But realised the amount of salt there woud be with people moaning about how long it took to get to whichever region they origonally planned so created a new one closer to home.

Of course We'll still likely see plenty of moaning about the time to get there in peoples warships when it opens anyway lol
