Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X problem
Hi,
I just bnought the game, and tried playing with my Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X joystick with no luck. It would not recognise it. Tried so many things I read here and on other forums and I ended up getting it to work when running the game without steam. By running the game launcher directly through the steamapps folder.

Even though it recognises it, and some controls work (mapping is all over the place and the throtle does not work), it only sees it as a generick joystick and not what it really is.

This a major problem cause I do see people having issues with better controllers as well.
The logitech F310 works. It even shows the button images corectly during training.

Now should I invest on a new expensive good controler for the game, or should I justp lay keyboard and mouse.

I was hoping at least that it would recognise my T-Flight Stick X for a while before I could get the money to invest in a proper more expensive controller.

It's amazing that a game that has been around for so long has such issues with flight sticks. I know mine is not the best, but it is popular enough to be recognised. It is recognised on other flight sims I have.

I mean a flight game not recognising a flight stick?

Just like a soccer game I bought that would not recognise my gamepad... I had to read on how to enable it through Big Picture before I can use it... that's just bad. Full released games should just work out of the box. Why should I have to go through the trouble of getting things recognised etc.

Anyway a little disappointed that I cannot play the game right now.

I cannot find on the web a guide on which buttons on the Thrustmaster T-Flight Stick X people use. Mapping of keys that best work with the game.

But I guess if the game/steam cannot see my controller by name.... then there is no point right?

I use the same stick & not had any problem. You tried downloading new driver for it?

I have been useing a t flight x for over 4,000 hours with no issues. I seem to remember one thing that was suposedly important back then, Did you download the latest drivers BEFORE plugginjg in your stick?.Also, I just got a new pc and had to install everything again. As soon as you make a change in the settings, It will change from thrustmaster to "custom".As far as mapping your controller goes, just set it up to what makes sense for you.Do a few buttons and click apply ( and remember where you left off) that way, if you make a mistake , you won't have to do the whole thing over.Things like one of your buttons not working can be a pain in the butt , but is useually a simple fix but time consumeing to find.
Hi and thanks for the replies.
I did install the drivers from the site. But it was installed in the past though as I have used this controller before with other flight sims.
I never installed drivers in the past. More or less plug and play with other games.
So should I uninstall it, unplug it, install again, and plug it in again?
I will give it a try.

You will still have to go through the process of re binding your keys, but at least you are starting fresh and eliminating possible problems one by one. when installing on my new pc , i had a few issues to correct but after checking everything I finally got everything working right.

I would like to see a diagram of people's prefered button binding on this controller. I mean someone who has had the experience with this would save me precious time.
Looking online, there are some nice infographic diagrams but for more advanced controllers.

I had a digram on my other pc but not on this one, but I will see if I can find one.
I remember a guy posting a diagram which is where I got my basic starting point a couple years ago. Unfortuneatly, I don't know how to do that.. And searching steam for it only shows our discussions. you might can try other sources .for a keybind diagram.
Run the game without steam. If it picks up your joystick then steam isn't involved, steam needs fixing.
I did a google search with these words and got a bunch of different diagrams. thrustmaster t flight x elite dangerous key binding diagrams

Funkynutz you're right. Steam might need a fix. It did work when running the game without it. I might even install it from the Frontier site. I actually bought it from Frontier a couple of days before Steam put it on specials. They had it on specials. But I requested Steam keys in order to have it on steam library.

Anyway I will see.

thanks pople

Close steam. Go to the folder it's installed in. Delete everything in there EXCEPT Steamapps (folder where all your games are - DO NOT delete), and the Steam application file (you need this for the next step).

Run the steam file and it will redownload the rest of the stuff. Should work normally after that. It's been a bug with the steam overlay since they introuduced controller configuration support that crops up occasionally.
Well I uninstalled the game from steam, and deleted the folder from steamapps.
Then downloaded the launcher from the site and installed the game that way.
The joystick is recognised as a generic joystick. Not as the T-Flight Stick X. Is this how it is with others as well?
Going to bind the keys as per the diagram I saw yesterday and have a go.
