[HELP] Can't Run 64-bit or Horizons
Reposting what I posted on redit:

Hi guys! I am currently having a problem running 64-bit and Horizons. I just got the game this weekend and if there is an obvious info I did not know, apologies.

I already googled this and tried most of the solutions I found. Still, 64-bit won't run. I already sent a ticket but I don't want to wait 48hrs to play the game.

What I have tried:
Reinstalling ED - all of it. (I have the steam version)
Reinstalling MS Visual C++ ( 2010 and 2012 in the game files)
Disabling my AV (I use Windows defender)
Running as admin
Verify files thru Steam
Verify files thru ED launcher (complains of a manifest error. 404. Server not found or something like that. Possibly the update servers are down?)
Running without the launcher (game launches this way but wants me to run thru launcher then shuts down)
Adding the entire game directory to AV exception
Running it while in safe mode.

Interestingly enough, it ran 64 bit the first time but never again. 32 bit runs fine.

Any Ideas? Help?

Did you try resetting the graphics and resolution on your game and toggle from window mode to fullscreen or vice versa by chance? Also are your drivers up to date?

I have recently purchased Elite Dangerous from Steam, and installed both Steam and Elite Dangerous successfully. After the files for downloaded, it installed the necessary MS libraries, and registered the game. In the Launcher, I've got a selection of options as follows:

ELITE DANGEROUS: HORIZONS [64-BIT]
ELITE DANGEROUS [64-BIT]
ELITE DANGEROUS: ARENA [64-BIT]
SINGLE PLAYER COMBAT TRAINING

Since the game is new, I press on ELITE DANGEROUS [64-BIT] and after a couple of seconds, a black screen appears. After a couple of seconds, it gets back to the desktop, with 'Crash Reporter' stating that 'EliteDangerous64.exe' has encountered a problem that it cannot continue from.

I have tried numerous solutions, including installing the game on another Windows 10 (1809) - whereas this one is Windows 10 (1803}, I checked that uPnP is enabled in the router and also tried setting up a fixed IP on my machine and set port forwarding (https://portforward.com/technicolor/tg589vn/) - although my PS4 works fine with uPNP. I checked repaired/reinstalled all MS libraries (i.e.: MS VC++ 2010, 2012, 2013, 2017 both x86 & x64), .NET Framework 4 is there as well. I'm using the default WIndows 10's antivirus, and excluded the whole Steam folder. I have also tried disabling it, and also Windows firewall.

When I used port forwarding, I added the AppConfigLocal.xml to use port 5100, (the log bleow was a bit different:

N.B. When I try SINGLE PLAYER COMBAT TRAINING it works fine, and the frustration builds up more knowing that I cannot play such a great game as I used to do when I was much younger playing Elite on the BBC Model B and Acorn Archimedes A440 computers.

Thanks 57, yes I did, but to no luck. I have just installed a Windows 7 (64bit) machine, and am currently downloading ED from Steam, we'll see how it goes.

make sure all the windows updates are complete before installing ed. you dont want to be running in circles due to a missing framework package or something :)

It's not the overclocked gpu thing causing it? Remember seeing threads where some had issues with clocked cards. Don't remember the actual error caused though so may not be relevant.

i can confirm this is an issue with nvidia gpu's. my gtx 570 and 970 both crash the game if overclocked by more than 5% of the default. also some cards are sold overclocked and must be undeclocked from thier default.
i dont know if the asus cards have the same issue.

Nothing overclocked, GPU and CPU left with default settings. One of the Windows 10 machine was fully updated with the latest updates, and built. Also latest update for the GPU card. Thanks!

Just installed a fresh new Windows 7 (64bit) machine, with nothing installed except the nVidia drivers, MSVC libraries (as installed by the game) Steam and the game itself, and same happened, the ED 64bit will crash on startup launcher, while it's 32bit demo works perfectly.

maybe set your own specific port for elite in options

Hi wolf, I tried setting up a different port as well. Today I tried a different connection as well, on a different ISP, but still failed. This has to be from a connection to the server, perhaps a subscription? I log in successfully with both Steam and Frontier. I submitted a ticket, however I bet I'll have to wait for any answer!!!
