400 billion stars?
Is it accurate that this game has 400 billion objects for us to explore? I was like WOW that Frontier can create 400 billion stars. Is that correct? Also, for exploring places that haven't been explored, if I explored and "discovered" the star, will it be "registered" for everybody to visit it later?

Thanks again, Tom (going to buy this game tonight!)

Yes, the second you sell the data others will see your name.

That's not true, I curse their names every time I pass by a cherry-picked earthlike.

Kewl! Did Frontier get data of accurate stars (distance and size) from a source like NASA? That is one reason I'm buying this game because of "realistic" data.

The game includes all of the stars that have been surveyed by many different organisations AFAIK, it mixes these "real stars" with then a best guess as to the rest of the galaxy, based on likely distribution of the galactic mass, this has a wide possible range though so they picked a number in this range, doesn't mean it is "right" just that the galaxy we play in is "plausible" to use the mythbusters terminology!

As NASA and others make discoveries these are often then reflected in the game, with the procedurally generated planets replaced with reality.

As an example a recent discovery by NASA showed planets in a system that we have a star in the same place in the game (as it was from an earlier survey IIRC) and while the game hadn't got the planets exactly right, it had manged to get the total mass of the systems bodies very close and it was a reasonable representation of it in game. I believe they said they'd update this system in a future patch - cant' remember the name right now

The game lacks the most known hypergiants like Pistol star, Betelgeuse, UY Scuti. But they have Trappist-1, which was a randomly created system but with the power of great numbers the system that was created by procedural generation was very close to Position of IRL Trappist-1 and had very similar planet setup, so they just changed the name. IDK If they tweaked any planet's data in that system

Dunno about the other two but Betelgeuse is in game.

Technically the 400 billion number does not even come close to the amount of objects in the galaxy. I've been to plenty of systems that had upward of 30 celestial bodies in them. Each of those 400 billion stars can have a bunch of planets or none. I'd immagine the amount of celestial bodies in the game is probably mind-numbingly high.

Betelgeuse is in the game and theres a black hole where UY Scuti would be.

Also there are 400 billion or so STARS, not objects. Since many of the stars have bodies around them that means there are probably well over a trillion objects.

400 billion stars, not objects (which would also include planets and moons)... Objects is going to be much larger number.

Betelgeuse is in game. I've been there. Not sure about UY Scuti...

I think I tried all names of Betelgeuse and couldn't see it, maybe I made a typo and just though that it was not added to the game.

it's been in the game for ages.... also pretty close to the bubble so easy to visit.
