The second guide 40M CR peer hour is outdated, there been some changes that make that guide useless.
This will teach you how to fly in a more combat oriented way. It will help with your general flying abilities more than just delivery missions or Quince suicide runs.
ASP Explorer. This baby is the second best explorer, miner and passenger transporter in the game, only costs around 6 million, get it asap. No other multirole will give you so much bang for your buck.
Forget about the dolphin, you don't need it for passenger transport and it's not even a proper multirole. I'm currently making 15-20 million credits an hour with passenger missions alone.
Do you know which ships I use for that? ASP Explorer or Python, depending on how much space travel I'm willing to stomach, ^^.
ASP Explorer has more jump range and decent passenger capacity, Python has more passenger capacity and less jump range (still decent, if you equip it wisely), so it really depends on the passenger missions available.
If you want to make good cash from missions (any kind), the first thing you must do is choose a system/station and rep up like crazy with the factions there.
Don't stop until you've become allied with most factions in that system.
I definitely recommend Wu Guinagi (Ziegel Dock, for the most part), relatively fast and easy rank up with Empire, fast rep up too. There are plenty of courier missions to a neighbouring system just about 11Ly away (same destination, for the most part), so just do a lot of board switching (open > solo > private > rinse and repeat) until you reach the mission cap, then complete those short missions en masse and you'll reach baron rank in a few days.
At first you won't make much money, just rep and rank up, but once you've reached friendly or allied status with factions in Wu Guinagi, very profitable missions will become available (it works the same way everywhere, Wu Guinagi just happens to offer many quick courier missions to the same destination, just 11Ly away).
At that point you'll be able to make 10-20 million an hour, since passenger missions at Ziegel Dock will become pretty profitable.
Just make sure you don't accept passenger contracts with more than 3 different destinations (unless they pay a fortune) and total travel distance is 800Ly or less (round trip).
Also make sure that your ship can carry the required passenger modules and still jump around 30Ly or more.
As I said, ASP Explorer is the best choice if you are just starting to do this kind of stuff, just equip it with a 5A FSD (increased jump range engineer upgrades are recommended, but not essential), remove weapons and unnecessary heavy modules, and you'll be set.
I've spent many hours bounty hunting in High RES, mining pristine metallic rings, etc., and I'm telling you, nothing is nearly as profitable as passenger missions (after reaching friendly/allied status in the right stations).
Seconded! Furthermore, it helps you train for situations when you are ambushed and you can
learn how other ships fly, fight and lose. As with NAV-Points: make sure TWICE
that the target you are firing upon is WANTED... BEFORE you start blasting it to pieces.
Wu Guinagi, dude, trust me, you'll save yourself oceans of grief and frustration...^^

Or worse... a newbietrap.
10 minutes? That's the time it takes to undock, travel to the nearby system and reach the mission location (best case scenario is perhaps 5 minutes?). Unless you instantly make those 17 million on the spot, I doubt the whole thing takes just 10 minutes.
Anyway, if it's true, nice find.
Edit: Are you self destroying your ship in order to go back to the station?
Are you doing this?
