Problems with Saitek X52 Pro actually working
I am having problems with the X52 Pro settings that I enter through the options menu actually taking. The game recognizes the X52 Pro as I think I finally overcame the issues with loading the Saitek drivers in Windows 10. I recently purchased an Occulus Rift and using the X52 Pro is about the only way to fly using a VR headset, as you need to be able to execute functions pretty much by feel--mouse and keyboard are impossible. I can get my Xbox controller to work but that's a miserable experience trying to fly and especially land with that thing! I have tried various things with "Big Picture" (which also recognizes my X-52 Pro) trying to run the game not using Steam VR but rather launching it normally and them going into Occulus and selecting it, but nothing will get my X52 Pro to actually function in game. I have read most if not all of the threads on X52 issues and have tried many of those solutions--am getting pretty frustrated as I bought Occulus pretty much for this game. Have asked Logitech--who now owns Saitek apparently--for assistance, but that's been like barking at the moon.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Did you get the drivers from Logitech? AFAIK they're even supposed to work with Win10.

Does the stick show up and work in Windows control panels?

Yes. the stick does show up in device manager in Windows 10 which leads me to believe that this isn't a Windows 10 issue, but rather either a conflict with Steam VR or Occulus--the latter is launched when you launch the game in Steam VR, so I don't know if Steam VR actually runs or not or it just gaffs execution over to Occulus. I did download the Logitech drivers, but could not get the install program to work and their workaround, which I did get to work for the Saitek drivers would not work for theirs for some reason.
Make sure that the game's window on your regular monitor is the active one - move and click a mouse over it to be sure. The game might not take joystick commands if its window is not in foreground. At least that's how it works here, on my win 7.

Run the game without steam. If it works your steam install's gone a bit screwy (easy fix).

Check Steam controller options. If you have "generic controller" option enabled, it might cause the X52 Pro to not be detected by game.

How do I do that without downloading a completely separate install?

Nope, don't have any steam controller options enabled except for the top one, focus something, that's normally checked in Big Picture.

Nope that wasn't it.

I have been able to get ED to accept throttle input, but the joystick aspect of the HOTAS is still a no go.

Are the lights on the stick on? The X-52 (and all other Saitek HOTAS units) are extremely wonky when it comes to cabling quality and USB power use.

Try wiggling and reseating the cable between throttle and stick, and also try different USB ports. Preferably plug the stick into a USB 2 port (there are sometimes issues with USB 3) directly on your computer, and if you have a powered(!) USB hub, use that. Don't connect the stick through an unpowered hub.

Very easily. Go to the folder where the game is installed. Run the EDlaunch file.

Elite doesn't use Steam's DRM, so Steam doesn't even need to be running.

Great! Thanks! Did not know that. Will give it a try!

Yes they are. And I had done all that with the cable. Lights are all on and it's plugged into a USB 2 port.

I had that problem earlier today. Make sure that the game is the active window in your main screen, and the mouse does not go out past the game`s window.

Another fix is to unplug the hotas from PC and reconnect it.
