Elite Dangerous

Elite Dangerous

PC restarts randomly
So this didn't happen before. I decided to play the game after a time and suddenly it restarts after x times, sometimes it's 10 minutes, sometimes its 5.
I had no serious hardware upgrades lately and the game runs like a hot knife through butter with my processor and gpu.
What i did bought is a new keyboard (Logitech G213) and instead of using my dualshock 4 as a controller i'm trying to use the dualshock 4.
I checked event log and it just shows as kernel power issue as pretty much every BSOD/System crash.

Are you greeted with any error messages or such from the game of computer once you restart?

You could try also checking the logs from the game

I don't think I've ever heard of that happening before. Does the game still flip out if you just try using the keyboard?

Sounds like you're having issues with drivers for your new keyboard or your CPU is overheating. Need more info to tel you more, like what exactly is your computer saying when it crashes if anything?
Nothing game just freezes for 2 seconds and screen turns black, then regular single startup beep. For now it's not crashing and i'm trying to run the game with dualshock 4 using DS4Windows. I was using a Dualshock 3 before with SCP drivers, might be it...

Check your power supply. When they're starting to fail voltage levels can drop or fluctuate which causes system instability, especially under heavy loads like running games.
My PSU is new, had a similar issue and it was because my GPU was way too much for it.
Upgraded it 2 months ago maybe.
What i did notice is while other games like GTA or PUBG, all the fans turn on on max after a bit of playing cause it's hot here (GPU and my liquid cooler).
E:D doesn't turns them on, maybe it's just not such a load on the system or i dont even know...
Cooler is Corsair H100i and gpu is AMD RX470 4GB
BTW i though it was a conflict with DS4Windows drivers but i found out it uses SCPdrivers just as the ones required to use the dualshock 3....so not sure if that was the issue...
BTW just in case...temps are 45 for GPU and 65 on CPU-

agreed. its either a power supply issue or a heat build up issue.
note: even if you cleaned out the dust, the heatsink compound between the heatsink and the cpu and gpu may be dried out resulting in poor heat transfer. the capicitors can dry out from long periods of high heat as well.
check your logs for heat shutdown warnings and try monitoring your psu voltages with independant meters while playing. if you have never done this with a computer before, i highly recomend you bring your machine to a service center where the proper tools are available to do this safely

ok so your good for heat control i assume. and your psu is new, but how big is it? its been some years since i used anything less than a 1000W psu. it sounds like over kill but it can run below 50% load consistantly with very little heatgeneration.

also, with ed, overclocking nvidia cards will almost always cause a crash. set your gpu clocks to default and try it again :)
I actually think it was the driver issue. Tried again with the DS4 controller and it didn't even let me take off... It restarted. I'd understand if it was my rigs hardware if it affected other games but I played gta v today for 2 hours and I have pretty much all either on high or ultra and it didn't restart. It did heat up a bit and the fans sounded like an apache on Take off but that's it... Guess I'll stick to the dualshock3... Shame I was getting used to the 4th one
And the psu is 700

have you tried a powered hub? i know my saitek controlers are quite power hungry and became very unhappy with a direct connection. my usb 3.0 powered hub resolved all the controler issues

Random restarts is a sign of a power supply problem. If it was a driver this would cause a BSOD. Only software issue that causes a restart is triple faulting the CPU. Check your PSU and/or the harnesses.

And since you're water cooling, make sure you have enough airflow through the case. It's not just the CPU and GPU that get hot.
