Report a translation problem
I would assume the reasoning from FD is, "We went to a lot of trouble to give you the holo-me avatar creator; why would you want to make things so dark you couldn't see your character?"
Probably is related to HoloMe, as Sapyx said. Also probably why the Anaconda cockpit was altered when the Multicrew patch went live (and then had to be tweaked later because players didn't like it).
Anyway, I'd suggest posting on the official Elite Dangerous forums about this if you don't like it, as Frontier doesn't really see feedback posted on the Steam forums. ( https://forums.frontier.co.uk/forumdisplay.php/76-Suggestions-amp-Feedback )
