New Player Question: How do I see where 'the Bubble' ends?
I've tried some exploring, basically just picking a direction and going in a straight line as far as I could go in a few hours of real time, scanning things and then backtracking to sell the data. it was fun, and I made about 800k, but I do't have a clue if i actually got 'outside the bubble' or not. I think I did, because I didn't see any NPC ships after a while...but how do I know?

I tried to zoom out on the in game map screen to see this 'bubble' that is often mentioned, but it never looked like a bubble to me.

the "powerplay" map in your galaxy map gives you a prety good idea (3rd tab i think) although not all systems are in power play.

the "bubble" just refers to the bubble like shape of the populated systems area :)

Well you really have an inner and an outter one given the gap of unihabeted systems between the main bubble and the kind of "shell" of a dozen worlds approx 400ly from Sol, many of these are famous such as Sothis, Quince, Fehu, Maia and Robigo.

Past this there are now a few tiny bases here and there. But if you get more than 500ly from Sol you can consider yourself "outside the bubble"

Ok, the powerplay version of the map was pretty cool and colorful. I'm apparently right on the edge of that stuff. I picked a random star rimward from me, several thousand light years away, and it says 'Unknown Permit Required' in the description. What does that mean?

that means that system is locked.

the devs have locked some areas of space that they have future plans for.

see above

You are probably going towards orion based on the little info, a section of that is now sadly locked and many are expecting alien things to be there soon...so sadly much of that area is off limtis which IMO is a bit of a shame as it's a great place for new explorers.

However all is not lost! There are loads of good places to visit :) Try going to the California nebula out past the Plaiedes if you haven't been there yet for a good first journey to get your feet wet!

if ur talking about heading in 1 direction and reaching another star system like in evochrone instead of using warp drive, u cant.. iv tried, and they have stated u cant, the game will always register u in the star system u are in even if u had "reached" another area. somthing like that
With the latest update to powerplay, it appears as we can't "see" the bubble anymore. Does anyone know of an alternative way? I'd very much like to see a general, visual representation of how the populated space is advancing through the galaxy after colonization began

Population filter.

Since colonization began, the "bubble" is no more, not really.
It used to be a bubble shaped area of human inhabited systems centered loosely around Sol. But now it has expanded and lost it's former shape.

In old money, if you're 500-700Ly away from Sol, you're out of the bubble. Nowadays you will probably be knee deep player claimed systems and colony construction.

Play with the map. Pick a system some ~700Ly from Sol and head that way.
On the return trip, pick a different route so you don't visit the same systems.
Add systems or planets to your bookmars. If you find something interesting, bookmark it.

Bring:
Ship with 30-40Ly jumprange or better.
A SRV (Scarab, not Scorp).
DSS obviously.
Fuel Scoop; One that can refuel the ship quickly, otherwise you will be annoyed.
Shield. Pick a decent one, but nothing very heavy.
Artemis flight suit (comes with lifeform scanner).
no weapons, no external equipment, nothing that adds unwanted mass to the ship.
A-rated SCO frame shift drive, obviously.
Patience.

When using DSS heatmaps, dark blue and light blue zones are very poor. Teal zones are where you want to go. Geo and Bio signs are most plentiful in teal zones.

Don't ignore Geo signals completely. The materials you can pickup using your Scarab will be very useful in the future.

You can synthesize oxygen in case your cockpit cracks.
You can also synthesize FSD injections to give the ship extra range. That's why materials are important.

Apart from the frame shift drive, everything else should be D-rated to save weight except maybe thrusters and power plant. The power plant will not have too much work but the rating affects resting heat and heat buildup.
Consider using a smaller power plant that is A rate.
Thrusters depend largely on how comfortable and fun it is to fly the ship. D rated thrusters are usually not very nice, and you will probably fly on planets a lot. I always use A rate thrusters. Much nicer.

Set the route planner to longest range to cross the galaxy quickly. Set it to economic routes to visit as many systems as possible.

Consider periodically flying back to civilization to turn in the scan/bio data. If the ship is destroyed, any data you have will be gone forever.

Turning in data improves relations with a faction, so you can use this tactically and improve relations with a lot of factions in systems that are important to you.

The old 'powerplay bubble' map didn't show the extent of the bubble. It only showed the regions controlled by powers, which excluded all the thousands of systems NOT controlled by powers.

Now it would be even more useless.

Anyway, use the Human Owned filter or the Colonisation filters and you'll see where the bubble really ends.

"human owned" i feel like there is something big at the horizon with this maybe in the near future we will get complete alien races?

There are already filters for thargoid and guardian.
I've found a few previously undiscovered Guardian systems just by using that filter. There's a cluster east of the bubble with dozens of them.
