Federal Dropship with a Deployable Fighter
Federal Dropships. Nothing to difficult normally to chew through with my Python. Even when I have no shields, I can usually take one out with minimal hull damage.
Except this one some how had a deployable fighter that ate through my shields (even with SCBs firing) and then hull.

And it was definitely a Dropship, not a Gunship. Did this last small update give Dropships fighters?? Or do I need to worry than any medium+ ship is gonna be able to deploy fighters?

dropships already had fighters, and sometimes they have plasmas. maybe thats why they ate your shields?

Dropships don't even have a fighter bay, there's no way it could have been an SLF

Only gunships and corvettes can equip them, from the Federal ship line.

It wasn't a gunship. And it launched a fighter. I watched the blue deployment thing below the ship. And it wasn't in a wing.

A dropship is the base Core dynamic Mid line ship - An FAS is a Dropship with Saud Kruger (or the FDL / Suad Engines)
And a Gunship is a much bigger Droship

They all have almost identicle ship asset models - but for confusion purposes:

Sweeping forward wings, all bottom mounted guns - Dropship 5 Hardpoints
Swept back wings, no break up of lines, unicorn gun on the top, rest on the bottom - FAS 4 Hardpoints
Small Wings, with Huge industrial Engines and a large middle torso with bottom mounted guns, and 2 smalls on top - Gunship 7 Hardpoints

The ships which are SLF capable:
Keelback, Gunship, Anaconda, T9-Heavy, Beluga, Corvette, Cutter
all but the keelback are multicrew capable

the NPC deploying a fighter in a Fed CZ or a Haz has to be Gunship - if it's another of the Fed ships with a blue deployment, sounds like your game is messed up, the two smaller Fed ships, don't even have the SLF slot on the bottom of the craft itself

If the SLF does deploy in a Gunship - it'll also make a bwam sound, akin to the ADS firing.
Check your Elite game logs, if the NPC killed you - as that will tell you what did

literally every fed dropship i fight deploys fighters.
Cain Jul 12, 2017 @ 10:15am
Log says Elite Gunship, but in-game I swear it said dropship. Otherwise I would not have engaged with just ~20% shields.
Ah well, just gotta suck up the 8mil rebuy and move on.

That's the Federal GUNship - not Dropship

My strategy with SLF's is to completely ignore the little fighter and try and take out its momma ASAP. As soon as its momma dies it dies.

The first time I dealt with one I did the opposite and the big ship tore me up while I was distracted with the little guy.

SCB'S will help with this.

I tried dealing with the gunship, but the SLF dropped my shields before my SCBs could replenish it. And very, very quickly started tripping my hull down. Went from 100% to 79% and started to try and run. And then both the SLF and Gunship just ripped me apart.

NPC's and Competent CMDRs use SLF's with Fixed weaponry, these SLF's equate the Damage of a Huge Hardpoint of the respective Class.
(by far and large the 2 most popular SLFs are the Rogue F, Condor [fixed multicannon] and the Gelid F Taipan [Fixed Beams])
B/C max jules is silly - time on target, resistances, and not being a 4 / 0 / 2 all gimball sit - forward in blue zone - is important; now more than ever.

That is bar none, the inherent tougness (in armour strength) of Federation Craft, as well as the resist that can be applied to a bulkhead, just by fitting a stock bulkhead.

Never go without bulkheads - always Fit Reactive surface composite, and mod accordingly to compensate.

Use the 3rd Party Website :
https://coriolis.edcd.io/

And pay EXTRA! close attention to the defense tab now, and look at your shield regen, and recovery. Then, look at the EHP to the shield stock, and when you apply your engineered modules.
Remember that Chaff does not work against NPC's they use MOSTLY fixed guns, with a few expections with them running some turrets from time - to - time

if you are struggling with one ship, and that ship is an NPC, you need to rebuild your ship.

Realize that an Elite NPC SLF is a bonafide floating latch-on hardpoint that you will not be able to outmaneuvre, let alone take out in most mid- or higher-class ships.

46 DPS will eat your shields like pacman on endlevels.

My so far most succesfull tactic has been to launch my own SLF(s).

Two Seeker Missiles will kill most SLFs, if you need an emergency SLF-deterrant for large ships. But I usually just aim for whoever launched them.
