What to do with data items?
Sometimes when i am scanning another ship i get data items. My 500 slots are full and i really dont know what to do with that stuff. I believe it is for crafting but my engineer (the one i have been to) cannot use them.

I'd recommend going with rarity (you can filter for grades) and discard the low quality ones first. always keep grade 5 and/or anything alien/raxxla/formidine/ruins related

Thanks, very useful link, bookmarked! (and also got rid of like 300 data items right away)

Be aware that the last edit on that list was before 2.2.03 so it's not up to date anymore (many materials/data has been prematurely implemented but will eventually become useful)
This should be up to date (although you'd have to look for the data/mats youself) http://inara.cz/galaxy-components

Thanks for the warning. I have seen the date on that list and already cross-referenced with more up to date stuff, also looked up the mats I get while BHing anyway, and deleted them accordingly.

Thank you for the tipps :)

also some of the materials/data with 0 uses are actually used to unlock engineers. You won't use them for mods but you might need as many as 50 to initially unlock an engineer.
LeSnoo Jan 23, 2017 @ 12:37pm
This list is much more comprehensive then the one i posted before and includes all engineers, their requirements and how/where to get the mats best, also what they are for (multiple tabs) https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1wTmKrzLCXRIdHwKHaN-gXHq6YkS_JAnJKsyQp8P-j0Y/htmlview?usp=drive_web&usp=sheets_home&ths=true&sle=true

That has nothing to do with your data inventory.

i wasnt talking about the data cargo you can find. i ment the scanned data packages you can get from data nodes, worth up to 800k. i think it is sored as data inventory... but im not positive

I know what you were talking about. What you're talking about is found under the contracts tab on the left hand panel. These can be handed in for rewards in faction alligned systems. It has nothing to do with your data inventory, which is found in your inventory tab in the right hand panel.

Data inventory is a limited storage of 500 units used for the Engineers, things like specialised legacy firmware, datamined wake encryptions and so on. You can't sell them.
