That's what i was saying :)
Farseer G5FSD (unlock req. scout ranking in exploration) is fairly easy as she requires only exploration data to upgrade, *just do a (few) 2-3kly roundtrip(s) and you should be getting to g5 rather quickly
*- before you sellyour data, check your materials and craft lvl. 1-2 upgrades if you have the mats as they are cheap/common, ~2,5 upgrades lower would be enough one lvl of the next tier (~2,5 lvl 2upgrades for lvl 3, then ~2,5 lvl 3 upgrades for lvl 4 and so on)
If your range is super high you won't visit as many systems and hence not collect as much data. I guess it's a balance. You might want to be able to jump 30ly, but you might not do it that often.
That's why you can switch to economic mode or manually plan your route.
With a longer range you can be faster if you so choose, you can just putter about if you want, but you can't reach some points without it. If you don't plan to go somewhere remote, then again, fly anything you like.
It doesn't really take all that long, I'm on my way back in a 37ly asp explorer. It all depends on how much distance you want to cover in how much time. I'm averaging around 2k ly per hour now. Takes around 10 hours of flying to reach colonia like this. Do note: I do not spend any time in any system to get this much coverage, it is honk-scoop-jump.
The only things you really want are heat sinks, which are cheap, and the biggest, best fuel scoop you can fit. Advanced discovery scanner pays for itself in 500-1000 ly.
Your current jump range is fine.
32 or above
As discussed in this thread, any range. Take a look at where you want to go. Fringe? Traversing the rift or sparse systems? Maybe go with more than 30 and carry boost mats. Just cruising mainly on the galactic plane? Pick up a broomstick, paint some flames on it and go - 15ish ly is enough, route planning might take a smidge longer, while it might be painfully slow travelling for some, you are still good to go
You don't need to tell me mate, 32ly is sufficient or above, I have ample experience but thanks for trying to enlighten me
I'm not sure i follow, may i ask if you just answered to the OP or were taking the whole discussion into account?
I mean, i did my first run to SagA in a 18ly Adder. That happened. Not interested in any discussion about 'expertise' or whatever. Also don't care to enlighten anyone. The original question was about a good range for an explorer, the answers were "it's circumstancial, what do you plan/how durable are you" a discussion to which you then added a fixed range, which is contradicting what was discussed and could be argued to be not true.
I suggest you read the OP's question then reflect on what I said, it will come to you eventually
I'm confused, not sure where the need for this tone comes from, as well as.. suggesting to read and comprehend while neglegting to do the same? A fixed number as answer to a question that does not have a 'proper' answer as it is circumstancial - and that being pointed out as 'issue', prompts you to play the expertise card - which, again confusing, is supposed to make that very fact vanish? And then it's me who didn't understand your answer to the OP's question - while i now pointed out the issue with that question and a 'fixed number' answer for it twice.
Heh, right on then, i'm neither interested nor prepared for a discussion on this level. Fly safe CMDR
Now I have started a pissing match. LOL
