how to zoom?

zoom as in in the cockpit or in the free camera? there is no in cockpit zoom, but the free cam zoom is under the control options the free cam.

If you're using Keyboard + Mouse and using default key bidings for the Camera Suite, use the Arrow Keys to zoom. But I sense you want FOV (Field of View) instead...I could be wrong.

can i change fov without going into options?

Yes, type in Windows search %userprofile% then:
AppData>Local>Frontier Developments>Elite Dangerous>Options>Graphics>Settings.xml
and change <FOV>75.000000</FOV> I think 60 its the default.

wait this is Incockpit zoom? although it seems this method does not allow for switching between zoomed and unzommed
