Fuel Rat Killers...
It has been pointed out to me that this idea if it were to be implemented would be something that people could easily exploit, by CryoCat, cheers. I realise this idea is rather stupid, feel free to share your oppinion, at this point the only part of the post I still will stand behind is I don't support griefing griefers.
Reacently I've seen a number of forums related to people setting up traps to kill Fuel Rats, and I have seen videos of people hunting these "Fuel Rat Killers" down. Don't get me wrong a person who kills a Fuel Rat deserves nothing less, although I feel this is going about it the wrong way.

If anything Frontier should make Fuel Rats a real ingame faction players can join and work for (without pay as it's always been) where players can send out a sub-space beacon or something of some sort and a rat can take it as a job that goes in the transaction tab. This way setting up griefer traps for Fuel Rats can be greatly discouraged, kill a Fuel Rat who is on the job, get a massivly FAT♥♥♥♥♥♥♥bounty. In every inhabbited system (because fuel rats help anyone and everyone). I feel this way because people griefing the griefers is just the way to create more toxicisity in the community, sure I'd happily hunt down and kill The Fuel Rat killers myself (although my combat skill is lacking) but I think there are better ways to deal with these people.

although Fuel Rats are generally liked they are still players, no different than anyone else. same game mechanics apply. If you start giving groups special status who decides which groups get itand which groups dont?

if they don't like being hunted they're free to require that fuel rat rescues be done in private groups where they can control membership.

I've been a Fuel Rat since December 2016. Yes, there are some who will hunt us. Yes, there are some who will use Fuel Rat calls to bait us into traps. No amount of suggestions will change that.

Truthfully, it's not as prevalent as the frequency of tthe "Let's save the Rats from being hunted!" threads. We Rats run in Open and we very much know the risks of such. Also, generally we are not caught unaware of potential ganking. And well.. we'll still go in most cases.

I'm saying that they get special status only when on a job otherwise they're a normal player, and that joining becomes a game mechanic

Also, we can give better service by it not being a built in game thing anyways. The least of which is the more centralized communication for when ♥♥♥♥ just goes wrong.

Speaking as a (for a while inactive now) Rat, it's part of our job unfortunately, but there are black lists in place and we're encouraged to bring adequately fitted ships, both in these cases and in order to take the heat off our rescuees if an npc happens to spawn in their vicinity.

It's a shame that there's ♥♥♥♥♥ preying in a faction doing such a good job, but they're one of the best prepared and less desirable targets pvp wise. Speaking for myself, I don't need any special treatment from frontier.

Some people really are disgusting. Think what they would do to others when there's a natural disaster and help comes late. However op if they make FR a faction these gankers would use that against other players too. For example joining up and use sidewinders or eagles to kill noobs and give whoever kills them a huge bounty.

yeah I can see that, the idea is a bit OP, and has an abusive potential, I just feel that griefing griefers is not the way to go about it.

Thing is, Gary, the Fuel Rats do not support people taking up arms for the Fuel Rats. It just feeds the issue. I honestly don't know of a single Rat who has done more than alert the Mischief of what happened and move on.

Getting angry about it, calling for peope to protect us, encouraging people to do it, even turning and fighting back (other than to take the hit so the Client is not targetted and can escape safely) are all things discouraged as it just encourages a Dial-A-Fight.

We have ourselves quite taken care of. I promise.

I was not trying to call up arms. I explicitly said in the main post I don't think griefing griefers is the way to do it. I was just saying perhaps there should be a way to discourage it, but I have been pointed to this being exploited and realise it was a stupid idea to start with.

So? They do it because you people come and make threads about it and give them notoriety.

Stop making threads about it and they stop doing it.

Yeah, there just simply is no way to discourage it. At most, our processes and instincts tend to give us a bit of warning. And truthfully, a huge part of why the Fuel Rats work so well is because we organize out of game. No real way to explain why that is, so instead I invite you to just come out and join us for a bit and see it first hand ;)

I have been considering that, but I need to get back to the bubble first, I think the fuel rats are the best players in the entire game, and I just sorta forum raged when I learnt there are people that set up traps for them. This is what happens when you have a lack of research.

yeah good point, just ignore them, no reason to spill it all out knowing that they don't even care
