The "4-pip-SYS meta" thing after 2.3
From the 2.3 change log:

Changed the exponent of the curve used for shield resistance from power distributor pips to make it less harsh. 0 and 4 pips are unchanged, middle values now have a higher damage resistance. Specifically changed from 2->0.85, which means that 2 pip has an increased damage resistance from 15%->33% (0 pip stays at 0%, 4 pip stays at 60%). This change means that the TTL (Time To Live) increase of each additional half-pip is approximately the same, rather than almost nothing to start and spiking up towards the end, hopefully allowing players to use setups other than 4-SYS with less penalty. Does not affect CQC ships

So you may now really want to revisit the approach of always having 4 pips in SYS.

I only ever had it when under fire from a wing. I always prefered to kill my oppenent quicker than slow down and take damage over time.

So for me I am very much looking forward to this as it will give me greater shield strength when I'm going 2-0-4! Raaaaaar!

Or even 2-2-2, chasing those Vipers. I usually only put 4 to SYS, when I see some plasma incoming and I'm too busy to get out of its way.

Or even 2-2-2, chasing those Vipers. I usually only put 4 to SYS, when I see some plasma incoming and I'm too busy to get out of its way.

well ATM all I seem to face is plasma lol, often against a wing I actually find 1-1-4 is more effective than 2-0-4 as that extra manuverability gets you hit less, again the change will basically buff my shields in this pip setting so pretty happy with that :)

4 pips to ENG. 2 to WEP. What's this "SYS" you people talk of? I've been spending a lot of time in my DBS recently xD

Same in my Conda lol

I've been using a lot of 1-4-1 configuration when not getting my shields battered from plasma or rail guns

You and me both.

I built one too.....still not really getting the hang of using properly yet.

I have just been so accustomed to having shields and being able to take a lot of hits.

Can't do that in the little stealth ship.

More practice I guess.

0-4-2 in my Corvette. I only put pips to shields when facing a Python or larger, since nothing smaller than that on it's own can threaten my shields.

The trick is, don't get hit ;)

The only thing I have to worry about is pilots/elite npcs with fixed weapons, nobody else can hit me :steamhappy:

I fly my Courier 0-4-2 when chasing a target, and 0-2-4 once I'm on him.

If I'm being focused I go 4-2-0 till I can come about and get pointed in the right direction, then I boost away and go 2-4-0 to get the heck outta Dodge.

Once I'm clear I go back to 0-4-2, pick a target and repeat the process.

only time I have 4 pips to shields is when someone is shooting at me. i don't think that's going to change much...although this will certainly help when taking on a wing of rail-spamming eagles.

This patch benefits players like me who like fine adjustments. Even I never knowing the "mid-range-pip" needed a buff, sounds really good.

in engineering, we call this "a solution in search of a problem"

I dunno....the amount of times i've been called a "noob" because I don't sit with 4 pips to shields and want to power my guns is unbelievable! Because you know, shield tanking and efficent pulse lasers is just such a fun way to play....

I think making people realise that other things are viable is welcome.

Though thinking about the "real problem" the devs want to fix - mega shields, what they really should have done is cut the 4 pips to shields bonus! I mean most people saying the nerf they cancelled was good were saying "my 1000 shields are fine" but they flew with 4 pips all the tims, and obviously were fighting people with say 5k effective 10k with 4 pips. Where as I was flying with 1600 with no pips to shields a lot of the time...I see a nice easy solution here actually if they want to nerf big shields and fights that last forever...as well as limiting scbs that is!

I fly a FAS with 270 MJ shields in CZ's. Even though the mega shield nerf didn't happen it did get me to find alternatives I like better anyway. I won't be going back to megashields even if I can.

Yes I've swapped to resists...which is why the buff to 2/3 pips in shields is usefull haha :) effectivly keeps me at the level I had before but with more resists!
