Playing Elite with your kids
So I just had a little fun session playing Elite with my 5yr old this lunchtime. It's maybe the 3rd time I've let him play with me.

I was doing a base scan mission and we were talking about space, planets, moons etc, I landed and there were loads of biowaste canisters around the base, which he want to know what they were, oh the hilarity when I told him it was "space poo"! Oh the confusion when I told him it was the most expensive comodity in the galaxy! That people would pay me millions of space pounds to move it! (Explain that to my kid please devs)

On the way back he took the stick for a bit, asked if I remembered the last time I did (when I let him fly towards a planet) "when I made a crack on the screen"....yup he hit the planet too fast and busted my cockpit last time!

He also did a fairly decent job of landing the conda without a docking computer...I just had to yaw it a tad into place as he doesn't quite get that yet....

Anyway it was a fun time, I was wondering if anyone has funny stories from playing with their kids? Any interesting insights they have provided where they've made you think "why is the game like that" and you just didn't have a good response ready because you'd never really thought about it? Or when they've spotted somthing you never did etc etc

Great story. ;-)

I had a similar experience playing another space sim.
We set up a PvP tournament and players were scattered all over the globe.

I normally play when my kids are a sleep, but this fight was set to 6pm and they came in
to see what I was doing.

They were amazed about space and the ship I was flying. Their jaws dropped when I told
them I was about to fight against a guy from Australia (I'm a Swede).

It was an even fight and we jousted best out of 5 fights.

After a while they were screaming behind me instructions and warnings LOL!

"Daaad! Behind you! KILL HIM!"

I managed to win 3-2 and they were so exited so I could hardly get them to sleep
afterwards. The fight lasted about an hour.

Great fun and they've been watching me play from time to time since then. They
want to join in so we can fly together, so in a near future we might! ;-)

I can't get my kids into ED. I wax lyrical about the size of the galaxy, the wonders of flying a spaceship, and they just roll their eyes and demand i play their games instead.

Which is why some nights a week i don't get to play ED, instead playing Paladins or GTA5.

Poo goes in, poo goes out. You can't explain that. Never a miscommunication.

Only my nephew shows any interest and all he wants to do is fly in circles while shooting lasers.

No experiences like that with Elite, but it sounds like you had fun with it

Just ignore him/her/it. They are a common troll here. I play with my 5 year old when i explore in solo mode. She really enjoys jumping system to system to see what color the star will be and then if there are any earth or "ocean" worlds we can go see...Sometimes she likes to go visit the brown gas giants with rings, she calls them hot chocolate planets.

I don't have kids but my nephew has played this. He liked flying in supercruise and tried to land on what he thought was earth. I told him that landing on an earth-like isn't possible and he lost all interest.

Yeah my son loves space and everything to do with it...from looking at the moon though my telescope to discussing why he can't get on a rocket to mars and expressing his disapointment we havent been to the moon as long as I've been alive!

Go for mars! or somewhere else cool!

Next session I'm going to fly my boy to Sol just to look around!
