You can repair your srv's hull and refill your AFM unit via synthesis in your inventory tab of the right side panel.
You'll need the required materials.
Srv hull will also repair when you board your ship with it.
The reboot/repair option in the functions tab will repair a module at 0% health to 1%. A destroyed canopy can only be repaired by stations.
If you initiate a repair of a canopy or MRP (module reinforcement pack) before they reach 0% integrity, you can keep the health of those two components up.
As long as your AFM unit still has ammo in it for repairs.
The effect of restoring ammo on the fly is called synthesis, and is under your inventory panel on the right hand side.
Guns, modules, FSD injections are all under this panel.
And yes, to insta repair your SRV or even SLF for that matter, dock with the mothership.
Be wary, if you are recalling the mothership and under attack in the SRV, your mothership will get shot at, and you may become isolated in the SRV. (a self destruct is what you need to do at that point to return to the ship, as it is in a kinda limbo at the rebuy screen.)
SLFs can have you or your crew members "die" in them as many times as you want, as long as you have a SLF reload, and the mothership is not dead, you will not go to the rebuy, and not lose your SLF crew member.
just some extra tidbit info, sorry if it is a little off topic OP. just thoughtd id share some extra info if you were not aware of it yet.

My current ship is an asp, it is more or less well fited, i have made a trip to half the galaxy once a long time ago... Jump range is a bit bad though, only 29 ly but i still can optimize that.
I saw in a vid somewhere an asp with a 64 cargo bay... Would be nice to have that space, dunno what to sacrifice for that slot but landing on planets and gathering resources and not have a decent cargo bay is painful...
64 cargo Bay is a 6E cargo rack, so would take your class 6 slot
I would argue against that because if you're gathering materials on planets, they don't take up cargo space, but that's up to you
As you noticed i didnt land on any yet so im not sure how everything works...
You'll gather materials in threes, so picking up one nickel for instance gives you three.
I'd recommend you also get familiar with the srv scanner, as that's how you'll find materials
