I've received 5 or 6 and not done anything with them. As far as I can tell I'm not suffering.
I guess the rewards are not worth the effort or change from 1 jump profit missions.
Depends on location, current level of game progression, outfitting and if you are bored doing the same things. Some tip offs lead to enigmatic side story which may or may not, depending on player perspective, make your experience richer.
They can also bring in decent money. A few scan tip offs can result in 6 figure rewards, rare items and good diversion as well as a little challenge, depending on how you play them.
It's up to the player if they find that compelling or worthwhile. Some people play elite just to haul biowaste and earn credits and want figures on a mental spreadsheet simulator, others want to dig out more of it's diversity or story, some care about none of the above and just want to shoot things, etc.
Tip offs are extra-mission-rewards and not tied to any reputation system, basically free rewards for being a useful cmdr. They will eventaully time out if you ignore them.
Was quite surprised at the high payout. I've been given the exact same one twice afterwards from the same faction, but didn't bother. Too much effort for only 22mil. :)
I disagree.. not everything has to be about earning tons of credits, sometimes things are just purely fun to do regardless of credits. I've done 3-4 of these and I found them enjoyable to track down.
Go for it TC,have fun.
You class easy money and nice bit of story as a waste of time?!
Did one a month or so back and got a 750k payout for 10 mins "work".
Doesn't sound worth it. I get more from stacked skimmers and biowaste runs. That is how I made Anaconda in two days.
it's a good thing the point of the game is not to make money in the shortest time possible then Muppet, have you ever played a game before where the point was for it to be a diversion using content rather than reach some kind of win state based on credits ( which Elite does not have)?
If so, which I suspect you have, treat it like that. Otherwise just keep farming credits and ignore the rest of the game if that's what makes you happy (as per your above post) :)
I go more deeper into the game once I get a balance built up and fitted ships.
That's not deeper :) Deeper would be chasing lore and PP, we are talking about basic mission mechanics. Farming creds using some kind of meta technique is far deeper into the game than simply playing missions.
If you get a tip off on your 1st day of play it is likely going to be one of the biggest payoffs you get through the mission system and the most entertaining.
If that's your jam though, farming rather than playing content then by all means farm away.
"If you get a tip off on your 1st day of play it is likely going to be one of the biggest payoffs you get through the mission system and the most entertaining."
No way. If you get a tip off on your first day of play, you will be lucky to be able to even fly your ship properly; did you forget about the (sheer) learning curve? And you think a player with a few hours playtime will be able to use the co-ords to find the place? I absolutely think not.
I didnt get any story. At all. Just a veiled threat to hurry to the site as others may be on their way too. Took me 40 jumps to get there. And another wedge of time to SC to the planet and land using the co-ords. The payout was embarrassing. It was the definition of wasting time.
Why do that if I can make millions hauling cargo 1 jump? 75k is not great, even for 10 mins "work". And what "story" did you get with it?
Speak for yourself :) I still haven't read the manul to this game, also that is not even slightly an absolute or even related to whether a tip off is worth it or not :)
Just so you know coordinates exist in the real world too, you don't need any game expereince to understand that :)
