It is quite fast for the Type transporters as well, sporting about 340 something stock when fully laden down with cargo.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uh9AWV_BWo0
a good way to start in that entire regard.
Other options, are (for medium pads-) the Federal dropship for defensibilty and good shield(+)armour(+) cargo-and versatility
or the Asp Scout for better smuggling than a Asp X (especially with the new buffs coming to it. [a rated(+)arnoured,(+)gunned-up asp scout, gets about 39 LY for me atm, fully laden.-less total cargo than the asp x for sure, but when the rebuy is viper mk iv priced-and it goes about 489 with clean drives, and constant 11% heat even when firing 4 rails, what's not to love?-off topic, gotta bring it back])
But to sum, T7, T7, T7.
The new buffs to it from 2.2 and 2.2.03 have made it beastly
Have an AspX already specced out for expo with racks for when i'm in the bubble, but thats only got 72 T space, but a unladen range of 32Lyrs.
Was thinking of turning her into a trading tug though, as the changes to the DBX make the Asp.. well, a bit crap for expo when compared. Also i can salvage the FSD etc out of the Asp and the other modules out of a A-rated Cobra i still own, so pimping up the DBX will basically be free.
Does the Fed Dropship use the same size modules as the AspX?
Other than that i will have to check coriolis, I despise the asp X, not worth the money in my opinion.
There are a lot of ships that can do what the asp x can for less credits, and with more relative ease.
Asp Exploder is what some call it, and for good reason.
I should clarify this as well, the Type-7 Transporter, and Dropship can haul more than your asp X can-and perform better WITHOUT horizons upgrades, you dont need horizons to buy the Asp Scout either, the only ships non-horizons owners CAN NOT buy are the Beluga, and the soon to be added Dolphin.
Other than that, you are just limited to not being able to upgrade, or equip SLFs or SRV bays.
The Asp scout looks underwhelming stock-i guess, the new changes to it in 2.3, with a upped size 4 (to size 5,) an extra size 2, and reduced hull mass, will make it far outstrip the Asp X stock, the difference will be the ease of exploding the asp variant you use, and the maximum number of internal slots.
Well, it is a classic ship of the game and was excellent in its time. Changes in balance etc seem to have resigned it to the scrapheap sadly now. Did make a thread just now pondering if the 2.3 changes are going to make it a 13 mil waste of time now.
Ah what? the Dolphin is pay-walled?! FFS FDEV.
yeah commented in that one,
As far as the "dolphin is pay walled thing"
Well, you own base elite, or Elite version 1.0, the original build, i dont get this whole, i own base elite, i should have access to the 2.0 build and later content.
Horizons and its content is like a whole other elite.
Ive heard it rumored horizons will go on sale, close to the 2.3 patch drop, and if you havnt picked it up, id hop on then, if you love Elite that is.
Your going to not be able to do multicrew features either, which will REALLY, REALLY suck for the new guys who are (too stubborn?) to get the game in its entirety in a cheaper state.
Even if a new CMDR bought elite now, if they bought (via steam) the deluxe package, you would save 10$ (US) on the base game, and horizons, if you bought them seperately.
Handy Dandy money saving tricks-well, more like smart shopping i guess?
IDK, it is up to you, but labelling it as a pay wall is a kind of falsity, there are no REAL pay walls in elite.
Not in the strictest sense of the definition anyways.
Maybe 'pay-walled' isn't the best term, I'm quite happy to pay for landings, engineer mods etc, just don't understand why some of the new ships they have let every player have, and some they have, well, yeah, walled off.
As i say before, i'm not to bothered by the content i'm missing on, just annoyed the ships are being split up too. Also having got ED for £10 i can't justify to myself paying 3 or 4 times that much for the expansion, more so when i don't really need anything it offers.. (besides the bloody Dolphin! lol)
Yeah im not TOO too old, late 20s, early 30s-i was raised with 2 younger brothers during the whole couch coop type of craze, i get more enjoyment out of a game i can play with others-and i don't really subscribe to continous combat, or staying in just combat.
I do a lot of it, sure, but i dont just DO combat.
Im more a combat trader-and to me, deep space expeditions are few and far between, last one i did was the chrismas convoy to colonia.
So i can get that whole, mentality.
I would say the allure of horizons to me, has to do with making a ship i fly, mine. I like flying and thinking outside the box, or stupid meta craze, and like to forge my own RP narrative and path, being able to do the whole engineeer my ship to be mine really appealed in that sense.
I credit my whole playing elite, to the guy who got ME into it-i spent like probably a month or so researching if it was a game that could fit me.
Im a little too cold and calculating perhaps?
Meh-man have i gotten off topic.
Well, your welcome to always ask me questions, and if you need further assistance in any regard i wil be happy to oblige,
As always, Fair Winds
Well, i do DBS pew-pew in Res sites for a change of pace, but TBH i'm not a great combat pilot so CZ's are a bit too much, but the beauty of this game I guess is the freedom to play it your own way.
Refreshing to meet someone on here that isn't an asshat btw!
Id love to continue this outside the forums, you seem like a swell fellow yourself.
And, thanks i guess? idk, i have my own flaws, which ill admit when i am being all asshattery and the like.
Without horizons I'd recommend the Lakon Type 6 and maybe also the Keelback. The Type 6 has a decent cargo capacity and a nice jump range, but you'll be reliant on your ability to evade to survive interdicts.
A3' shields is key....
80T cargo.. Will set you back fully at its peak 28/32million..
;)
Just wait till the federal shark is out lol)
