My guess is you're trying to land a Large sized ship at an Outpost. Which isn't possible - they only have Medium and Small hangar bays.

That does help a lot, thanks. But that's a really wierd situation, I've played Elite since launch and never had that happen once. Try logging out and then back in, see if it's an instance problem.
that shouldn't matter.
I've honestly never seen this happen before. Not in 710 hours.
I've been refused docking before, but when that happens you still have the request docking option available. You can even click on it, although you'll just be reminded there's no parking space available and to please wait.
no. rep has nothing to do with that. Ive never seen that either.
my guess is youve lost conmectivity to the server. quit to desktop and relaunch the game. see if you can reqest docking then.
That doesn't happen. You don't need Rep to dock at stations, you should be able to dock anywhere at any time in a Sidewinder. The only exception would be if you flew something massive, like a Lakon Type 9. A Type 9 wouldn't be allowed to land at Outposts like that, since it's almost as big as the outpost itself.
How did we not spot that? Now I feel dumb.
Yeah no kidding, not sure how that slipped by. Amost 800 hours in the game too haha.
so....much....fail.
