Hyperspace bothers me
Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't the animation when you're going through hyperspace make it look like you're passing tons and tons of stars (systems)? This doesn't really make sense when I'm jumping to the closest system. It's a little immersion breaking. I'm going 8 ly and it looks like I'm going 200.

I think it's meant to be unsettling:

For ED it is witch space. For real life it is a loading screen.

Contrary to popular belief there are huge expanses of space that literally have nothing there. We think of space as solar systems and planets and this is true but between them there are tens of hundreds,possible even thousands of light years of emptiness. I would rather go through this loading screen than sit for hours in a dark empty black void.

Hollywood started the 'stars flying by' effect just so you could tell the ship was moving. Apparently for Star Trek TNG this affect was actually quite expensive so they tried to limit filiming in locations on the ship that were supposed to have windows.

I think the nearest solar system to Sol is 4.24 light years (Proxima Centauri). So at lightspeed which we cannot come close to it would take 4.24 years of travelling through nothingness (after you leave our solar system) to get to the next solar system.

Witch space is not hyperspace.

Semantics.

For those of us too young to remember the original games, it close enough.

Witch Space is kinda like another dimension, think Xen from Half Life, those lights you see could be anything from ghosts or aliens stalking you.

For those of you too young to remember heed the wisdom of those that are older.

Considering FSD works by basically warping gravity around you, you could attribute it to massive gravity lensing... or something.

From the 'lore keeper' Drew Wagar: https://www.drewwagar.com/lore/elite-dangerous-lore-hyperspace/ and referring to "Circa 2800 AD – Faraway Jump (Hyperspace Type 0)";

It was around this time that the phrase ‘witch-space’ entered the Commander’s lexicon. Its precise origin is uncertain, but it seems to stem from the risk inherent in the early hyperspace technology.

Witch-space referred to the ‘corridor’ or ‘transit tube’ through which the hyperspacing ship travelled during the jump. Many traders of the time believed that witch-space was ‘haunted’ – by “the ghosts of the early ships that went in to Faraway, and didn’t come out again.” Certainly a large number of ships never arrived at their destinations, their fate unknown even today.

Even after all this time, hyperspace is still not well understood. The witch-space tunnel that is traversed still hosts inexplicable lights and structures within it. It seems hyperspace will hold its mysteries and allure for centuries to come. Perhaps witch-space really is haunted…

my bet is that they are some high energy particales in witch space

So, that what this infinite warp, when you are stuck in a jump and have to kill the process, is about! It's not a bandwidth or a latency - it's a part of the game! :)
