Wingmates do not mass lock inhibit you. Stations, Stars, Asteroids, and Planets will actually mass lock you, preventing you from using the frame shift too close to them.
All ships have mass lock factor. based on weigth and size. For instance, a Anaconda has a mass lock factor of 23, you get that number it is an anaconda, and you are going to need to be 6.3 kilometers from it before your FSD low wakes you normally.
(Reference the inara shipyard for all the Mass lock factor numbers)
Wingmates (as i understand,) used to be able to mass lock you, but as i have experienced in game, that is not the case, or I would always be mass locked with my friends who run combat anacondas. When im flying a gunship.
As a special note, a low wake, (going to supercruise) can be mass inhibited by ships (mass locked,) but a high wake (going to hyperspace,) can not.
A good thing to take note of if interdicted by a player you do not want to fight.
Also try not to fly in a straight line when running from combat (i know, not entirely pertinent, but it is the largest mistake a lot of pilots make when running) and if you see your low wake is mass locked, cancel it, then high wake instead. It is much better to spool up the FSD for a high wake and cancel your low wake, than have to be running for 5 minutes while overheating to do a low wake-as that itself could result in death before you escape.
But in final remarks, if it was around a station, you were probably mass locked by either a T9, a beluga, or a T7-T7s mass lock pythons-and i dont know what ship you were flying, but its a little unknown fact that T7 transporters have a larger mass lock factor than pythons do. It is why it is my open play trading ship of choice-the T7
Fly safe CMDR, i hope i was of some assistance? and Fair Winds
