Turret Mode
I installed a turret with signature guidance and set the turret mode to "automatic". Nothing happens when i engage a target with my other laser. When I set it to "aim only", the turret locks the target and begins firing. But i dont know how to stop firing the laser. Once i pressed the fire button for the laser turret, it only stops firing when the target is destroyed. Is there a possibility that the laser fires automatically on the target?

There are a couple ways-as you have seen, yourself, you set the turret to target only, or engage all targets, and once you press the corresponding fire command, it will shoot, until the target is destroyed, or your weapon capacitor is drained.

So the first involves switched the turret's fire mode to forward fire only-this changes it to have the fixed profile while in this stance-but to start operating as a turret again, you will need to switch the fire mode back.

The second, is to create another fire group, with the turret, not in the fire group-switching to the next fire group, will stop that turret, and you will need to press the correspond fire command, when you switch back to get the turret firing again.

You can have up to 8 fire groups, so if you need to, go wild with them-chaff, cells, heat sinks, and expendable utilities can also be set to fire groups, if you do not have a way of mapping them to a command.

Hope that helped CMDR,

I was fine with "aim only" but i was a bit confused when the laser did not stop to fire. It is okay when it fires onto the target until it is destroyed but i a m worried that i might hit another ship during battle and get a fine / bounty for that.

If it only does a small amount of damage then it won't get you wanted, and they stop firing if another ship crosses in front of them.
