Resource Extraction Sites: Low, High, Haz - Why didn't anybody tell me?!

So I've been struggling pretty much from day one in getting into my groove. I don't have the mindset for trade runs, mining, or exploration, This leaves me with flying combat missions. Well, try as I might, I always seemed to end up losing more credits than I'd make. Massacre missions usually went something like; 1) enter CZ, target a ship with the least rank and of comparable ship type or less, 2) wait till my target appears to be actively fighting one of the other ships and is taking damage, 3) get to within weapons range and activate, 4) die within seconds about 80% of the time as suddenly I was being fired upon by every other enemy ship on the scene! Assassintation missions weren't much better, I'd only die about 60% of the time doing those. The only combat I'm successful at is when it's one on one. When I let myself get pulled out of cruise or when I do the interdicting, I win those engagements way more often. The problem was that the action wasn't happening as often as I wanted it to.

Well last night and this morning seem to be a turning point. I've discovered almost constant combat taking place at these resource extraction sites. It's friggin awesome! We're weaving in, out, and around asteroids, sometimes in the dark! Plus I'm getting some decent payouts in bounties! I now am no longer regretting purchasing this game!

i can help you to make a bit of millions if you can find a huge CW or War with a lot, i mean, A LOT, of massacre mission, tell me, and i'll join you in CZ for helping you grinding some millions of credits :)

I have a conda full engineered and fitt A class for combat, no chance you will die with me on your sight commander hehe :)

Glad to hear you're having a better time!

Combat Zones are waaay too much to handle when you're starting out. They're super hardcore and really difficult even with a maxed-out ship, a rookie wouldn't stand a chance. You're not the first person to feel discouraged after trying combat zones too early in their career - they make a monkey out of everybody, including myself.

Which is why I think Elite needs to post a warning on them.

CZs can be scary, but this is war. Space War. The only time it getts really good if is your side has a capital ship. Then you can just stayin the CZ until you run out of gas as the capital ships being there is usually too much for the enemy to handle. Most ships are softened etc...
