From this Article..... Salome was a NPC..... LOL
The Event was scripted from Start to end.
Drew made it clear that the "Community" wont play any role in this "Event" by taking SDC as "defenders" and having HP on her Friendlist.

I mean, what better could you do to make sure a Player "survive" as getting the most known Griefers and Ganker as "Defend".... HA HA HA

This explains everything:

Shouldn't listen to rage posts really.

Actually Drew even thanked HP for his role in the event.

CMDR HP is now the most hated commander out there, but he actually only dealt the last blow. I can understand that people are not all right with him killing Salomé, but he got the chance and took it. What if it had been someone completely different which would have been perfectly possible at that point?
Salomé's ship was heavily damaged from multiple interdictions over ~2h playtime. The ship used 2 full loads of AFMU to repair the most heavily damaged modules, still with heavily internal damage as she was interdicted by HP.
After being pulled out she suffered multiple module failures, including her PD, drives and FSD. So there was no chance to get away.

Here's what Drew wrote:
https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php/324796-THE-FORMIDINE-RIFT-MYSTERY-(Part-4)?p=5460483#post5460483

and this in his blog:
https://www.drewwagar.com/announcements/aftermath/

Imo the event was a success (if you leave the problems with the game mechanics aside; instancing and Peer-2-Peer model).
It was not scripted that Salomé died. It was considered of course as a possible outcome.

The defense was completely community organized. CoR didn't trust SMC or Harry Potter the slightest, but how should they forbid them to do what they do? Truth is you can't forbid any other CMDR what to do and what not. They tried of course... the whole plan was kind of rubbish in that regard.

@ Salomé's friendslist:
Drew intentionally kept all different people in her friends list. What he wanted was that no part of the community was kept from taking part; also and especially enemies of Salomé. So he didn't block anybody. (I was on her friends list, too. Could have taken part and killed her, too if I wanted. Drew didn't know anything about my intentions.)
He also criticised the plan to KOS anybody coming close to Salomé's ship with weapons. That was a really rubbish plan, because it's basically terrorism.

In defending Salome, PAC became just as bad as the people they were trying to protect her from. They got what they deserved.

Power corrupts.

It was an interesting idea, but it came apart because of shocking incompetance on the part of the Defending team. They lost, utterly, and were made to look utterly foolish.

True.

Also the outcome was rather likely, due to the fact that Drew made it openly.
1) The date and time of the event was given
2) The starting system of the VIPs was given
3) Drew kept all kinds of people in Salomé's friends list (me included); no matter if friend or foe.

But Imo the outcome makes a really good story. And that's what counts.

So what was this important message.... that 'stuff" is going to happen "at some point"?

did we really need an event for that?

The event was more for the ending of Drew's book. He wanted the community to take part in that and planned the event.

I think 2 months or so ago he was at Frontier and talked with them. They probably planned how the event will go and that Drew is orchestrator of it.

Trying to do such an in-game event is a good thing. It's surely better than not trying at all, even though in-game possibilities are limited. (He wrote that it was the first time such an event is done and that they have no idea what would happen)

Edit:
They could have done another (boring) community goal. But they tried something different. I apprechiate that.

well the past 2 ingame events were ended by SDC killing the target. I'd like to see some events that were less SDC-centered.

How did it fail?

Because the "wrong" team won? Lol

Huh?
Salomé`s party won actually... not without loss, but still.
There hardly is such a thing as an absolute victory.

Problem with in-game player interaction is that it's mostly combat centered... a thing that SDC knows best unfortunately.

Because ynow, having a bunch of idiots say "please! do guard our vip's back" is being a "masterful troll".

Nothing of what happened in that event was "masterful" on any account.
