Have enough fuel? Did you pick up any materials that might affect jump range?
Nara 2017 年 4 月 30 日 上午 11:56
"Route plotting failed" most of the time means, that your ship can't make 1 or more jumps in the selected route. Meaning it can only jump 5ly, while the star is 6ly away. Since you write that you have 12ly, I can only guess at it. My best guess would be, that the cargohold is filled, lowering your jumprange. If this is not the case, then I can't help you much, this is truly strange. What I would try is setting the route-style to "Economical Routes", this looks for many short jumps.

Try picking a star from the in-cockpit navigation tab on the left panel instead of the galaxy map.

Check your cargo hold and ajust the cargo slider on the bottom.

Whenever this has happend to me, it is almost always associated with a ship mass calculation. I can normally plot using "Economical" as suggested earlier, but not always. I have gotten to the point where (depending on the ship I am in) I wlll only accept missions that are within my fully loaded jump range if I am making deliveries.

check your star filters and route type......sometimes route type gets set on FSD boost.

This worked. even though the LY ended up being right in line where i was trying to jump? lol thanks gents

I had always thought that it meant one of the jumps in the available routes to the star was further than my FSD could reach, no matter how I tried to plot the course.

Learning that this automatic router is wrong, and you CAN find ways if you screw around with it enough, is kinda... irritating. Why even make an auto-router if it sucks?

The plotter won't try to plot a route backwards, every jump has to be closer to the destination which in some cases will lead to what described above.

And then there's the insane jumps using neutron highways that it just won't be on par with https://www.spansh.co.uk/plotter, infact it won't let you do a 2 jump trip to Maia from Shinrarta via Jackson with a jump-a-conda eventhough you could manually do the trip.

But otherwise it works just fine like in 99 times out of 100, it's those edge cases where it will break <10 Ly and >300Ly jump range is better left to manual input or 3rd party+manual input.

And then there's ofc the user errors; like buying a new ship with less jump range capability than the distance to the next star, leaving the plotter on economy mode, loading up on cargo leaving you unable to leave the system etc etc etc.

So if your plotter stops working, check your cargo, your ship stats, your plotter settings THEN accuse the plotter and do a manual search "backwards" to get out of the dead-end.

One thing I did when facing this issue is make sure you have all stars on in the filter. If you're like me, you disabled uninhabited stars from showing, and forgot to disable the "apply filter to route" option.

agreed. seems time wasteful at first but makes for a smooth trip

Your FSD might not be good enough to reach other systems

Once the route plotter gets into the failed state, it quits. As has been said by others here it will not back track to find another way through. It tries to find the shortest distance between A and B (based on your settings) and if it cannot, it gives up. There may be a way through, but the plotter won't find it.

The reason for this is likely performance. It is possible to have thousands of permutations of routes from A to B and it may take an a massive amount of time to search those to find one that works. So it goes by brute force and tries the most direct one and if it fails, it quits. Be thankful for this. It is probably using Knuth's algorithm involving costs between points, etc. Obviously it has more to it than that, but it is probably some variant of it.
