You don't, unless you want those mugs and an lame bragging right.
I prefer listening to old Jim Sterling videos I haven't watched before.
For the Hutton mugs rare goods. And no, it's not really worth it given how long it takes.
It's nostalgic; Hutton Orbital was there in earlier Elite games (it was called "Eden Station" back then) and it was a trap for the unwary, accepting a mission to go there without checking the system map first. The "Hutton Run" is the nearest thing this game has to a religious pilgrimage.
They ran a CG out to Hutton over a year ago, an event which created the Huttom Mug rare good. There already wa a Rare Good at Hutton (Centauri Mega Gin) so now there are two rare goods out there. I made six runs out to Hutton during the CG. The camaraderie from players making the Hutton Run for that CG helped form the Hutton Truckers player faction, which now controls Alpha Centauri and several other nearby star systems.
Those contemplating the trip need to be aware of several things.
First, fuel: a stock sidewinfder may not have enough fuel to make the trip, especially if you've used half your fuel just getting to Alpha Centauri. Take a bigger ship, or install an extra fuel tank.
Second, Hutton is an Outpost, so don't take any ship that's so big it needs a Large landing pad.
Third, Hutton is 86 minutes away. Trust me, after doing six runs, I know the timing pretty good. There's not terribly much to do for most of those 86 minutes, apart from occasionally checking that you aren't drifting off course. So don't do this if you think your game-time is better spent elsewhere. But it is a cool activity to do if you need to watch a movie, or go shopping, or something else that you can go AFK for an hour for.
Finally, consider wear and tear. Both your paint and your hull integrity lose 1 percentage point per 100,000 Ls travelled in Supercruise. Hutton is 6,300,000 Ls away, so your paint and integrity will both be knocked down to 38% if you started from 100%. While some players think worn paint looks cool, poor ship integrity is both dangerous in combat and expensive to repair. Unless your ship is really small and cheap to repair, the cash gained from buying and selling a hold full of Hutton rare goods is not likely to cover the cost of repairs needed after the trip.
Huh, I didn't know that was how that system worked. You learn things every day I guess.
And someone's jealous for not having done it :-D
