So what's so great about Sol?

Just got Petty Officer and I'm here flying around. Haven't seen any RES zones, the ship selection at Earth's orbitals is marginal, and there isn't much to do. Why does it take so much to get to?

Kinda gives a sense of perspective with the rest of the systems in game, but apart from that... guess you could say you where there?

It's like the first thing (FDS is not a thing) you get from having a fed rank. Not much at all.

If you play in open, you can either gank federal players or be ganked by the imperial goon squads.

The development team's offices are based in the Sol system, specifically on Earth. Admittedly this was several hundred years ago in Elite: Dangerous' timeline, but think of the historical significance!

There are RES sites at Saturn, btw. One of my favorite backdrops for Bounty Hunting...also some very deep canyons to explore in SRV (as well as some volcanism) on some of the outer moons/planets.

I did it with passengers onboard (I did know how long it'd take, though). Then I realised I'd have to go back to the station I departed from and, after an hour of getting to Hutton, couldn't be arsed to just throw away my accomplishment so I made the passengers stay at Hutton Orbital.

i did it during the Hutton Mug CG, Made 10 trips during the goal in a trade python

makes a good 'home system' since there are a million stations selling just about anything you might need and it's literally in the center of the bubble, so you can get anywhere fairly quickly from there. I kept most of my ships in Daedalus near Mercury for a while, though I've since moved elsewhere making the faction rounds in powerplay to get the faction weapons.
