Why for the sweet love of class 4 death? why?
Basically. Considering class 4 weapons are pretty slaptactic with damage even as Gimbals, why wouldn't you?
You can BLAM someone's face off with a Huge weapon like a Cannon or PA. But I believe the larger reason (lol) is balancing those sized weapons - that and the smaller selection of Huges
Because class 4 turrets would be fricking awesome. Turrets in general are underappreciated.
A factor though might be the tracking. The bigger the turret the slower the tracking. It may be that if FD followed their current formula the only way a class 4 turret would ever be able to lock on would be if the opposition is almost stationary, in which case, you might as well be firing fixed/gimballs.
If you did fit a turretted class 4, and it followed the standard hardpoint format.
It would be 4X the cost of the fixed varaint, and or 2X the cost of the gimball, with half the DPS of the gimball mount.
Though, you do make an inherent point of how the tracking would work. Huge hardpoints take forever to deploy and stow, so, you could end up making yourself a more vulnerable target. That's not to add in the time the turret would need to orient to target, when set to target only.
Or the inherent cause of accidental hits on friendlies, that could prove even more detrimental in some areas, than beneficial.
Against chaff, your turrets would be better, as chaff does not hurt a turret to the same degree a gimball is affected, though you would still burn extra distributor using them.
So, idk how the concept would work or even be implemented, at least now, maybe when we get the panther clipper? it could have 1 huge with a turreted only hardpoint? that's a thought!
Because multicrew.
If they add class 4 turrets I think gunners should be able to get a first person view from the turret. Make it its own dedicated station.
i'm dying for class 4 rail guns and frag cannon
