Achievements And Mod Intergration
Greetings,
I bought The Curious Expedition in Early Access and really enjoyed it, I casually play it on and off every now and then and recently not only noticed that achievements had been implemented but that mod integration had been added through the Steam Workshop.
This really excited Me and I instantly browsed the Workshop and picked out the more interesting mods.

The primary problem is that now I have realised that using mods disables achievements.
It really rubs Me the wrong way when a game adds official mod integration but disables achievements. What's the point? This means I will not be running any mods at all because I want the achievements and the sense of progression and, well, achievement that they bring.
If your argument is that it's to prevent unfairness or cheating, a cheater will get a program or line of code that will instantly unlock all achievements and cheat all they want. Plus this is a single player game endorsing mods. So the only people being punished are those like Me who want the whole experience of mods AND achievements.

The other issue is, one of the best mods right now is the Sekh’s Reworked Graphics, it is practically becoming indispensable for The Curious Expedition. And that is an entirely cosmetic mod. So it seems rather unfair that even that will disable achievements.

Finally, if achievements are going to be disabled while the game supports mod integration, then I want a mod that enables achievements. Anyone working on or know of one available?

Regards to the devs and their work, this is not an attack on them nor the game, I really like it. It's a constructive criticism since I just can't stand when the Workshop is added to a game but blocks achievements, since in My case they might as well never have added mods to begin with.

Edit: Just thought of a suggestion for Maschinen-Mensch regarding Achievements and Mods. The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ only enables achievements along with mods if you have finished the game at least once . That might be a good idea to draw from so as to strike a balance and set a goal for players to enable achievements along with mods.

Note: Reposted from the Workshop Discussions forum since no one seems to check it.

I agree.
Additional lots of mods are usualy designed around the difficulty of the vanilla game or even increase the challenge/realism.

Indeed.
That is a good point I forgot. A lot of mods are designed for hardcore players and to increase or at least personalise the difficulty, so it again makes blocking achievements silly.

That is great to hear. Thank you for answering to this thread and letting us know about this.
I am looking forward to the update that will allow this, and for The Curious Expedition and modding community to keep growing.
Keep up the awesome work!

I'm also really wanting to try some mods, but feel like I can't because I want to get achievements. But I just want to add mods to make the game better, not cheat.

I'd love to be able to get achievements while mods are enabled. Currently I don't play with mods at all only because of the disabled achievements which is a shame because there are some really cool mods on the workshop.
Nonetheless, awesome game - keep up the great work!!
