Generally I don't like comments like this... You know the "if you don't like it why are you here" type at least for blatantly bad games or games that have serious issue. In such instances it's warranted that people would warn others off but in these games? They're not bad. No one could say the Styx series is a bad franchise. It's a good stealth game but it is a stealth series and not an action game(No emphasis on combat for one however you can engage in combat).
I, personally, don't understand why someone like Sisko would come to a forum for a pretty decent game and make a blanket statement such as he has. It wasn't for him(Although he doesn't own the game), maybe he wanted an action stealth game... At least have the common sense to know a game is good but not your cup of tea instead of bashing it needlessly.
OP: Depends what you mean by the "first" game. Here are the games in chronological order:
1. Of Orcs and Men
2. Styx: Master of Shadows
3. Styx: Shards of Darkness
Styx first appeared in, "Of Orcs and Men," a game [of a different genre than the present one] released before the two games bearing Styx's name. You might like the first game more than the two that followed—being unfamiliar with your personal proclivities, I could not authoritatively say.
Then again, by "first" game, it's entirely possible you're referring to the second game, "Styx: Master of Shadows," in which case I would STILL not know what you do and do not like.
The only thing I can say is to give my personal opinion, which, if you are your own man, you wouldn't care about: I bought all three games. I liked the last two, Master of Shadows and Shards of Darkness.
Nope not at all, I picked up the first one and going to start my playthrough this weekend :)
I agree with Dr.Larry on this.
to answer the OP, I didn't play the earlier game but in the end, despite not being a 'stealth' fan, I thoroughly enjoyed the game.
I'd say just give it a go and see.
