How do I play with a ps4 or Xbox one controller?

it's pretty tricky. First make sure that the controller shows up as a valid joystick in Windows.

After that is done, when you start TIE Fighter Special Edition it'll ask you to calibrate the joystick... that's the left stick.

Right trigger gives you Throttle 50-100%, Left Trigger gives you 50-0%.

Honestly, it's FAR easier to install a program called Joy2Key and just map keyboard commands to the controller's buttons. That way the triggers can be fire weapon, etc.

Another option is to get X-Wing Alliance and install the X-Wing Alliance Upgrade mod, followed by the TIE Fighter Total Conversion mod. This will give you complete x-box controller support from the get go... as well as widescreen support,
