Constant unpredictable crashes

While playing either main campaign battles or combat sim missions the game for whatever reason while just crash with a tie exe stopped working error. The only thing that doesn't crash are training missions. People said that the GOG version was more stable so I bought that but it also crashes during missions. Except now I can complete the missions that were crashing on steam version but now different ones will just crash half way through.

I followed this guide and it fixed most of the crashing for me. The game still crashes on occasion though. Chock it up to being an old game. I'm just happy that we can even still play it on modern hardware.
