Pilot killed?
I hadn’t played for a few weeks and now it says Pilot (killed) on the registration page and the storm troopers won’t let me enter. ♥♥♥♥ is going on here?

On some missions, if your fighter gets destroyed, your pilot can get killed. In the previous game in the series, you would have to revive at the registration desk. TIE Fighter has an automatic pilot backup/restore feature, which you probably turned off, because otherwise it would revive you at the briefing screen.

Select your pilot on the registration screen, then hit the Escape key to open the Options screen. Click on the Backup tab, then click the Restore Pilot button. You can change the automatic settings there too.

And I suggest you keep those Automatic Restore / Automatic Backup on OFF. Because I got seriously punished by that. I had them ON and in one of the TOD mission, I crashed or got destroyed but I had the Primary mission objectives completed. And so my pilot was backed up. But I was not happy with the mission result. There was no way to go back to "before" the last mission. My record was now flawed :(

I think you can relfy any mission, even successful one (in the event you didn't achieved all the secondary or bonus objectives). After a mission when you get the debriefing from the officer and the cloaked figure you can click on the door (IIRC on the left) that will take you to the briefing of the mission you just flew.
if you get revived I believe your score is wiped.
On a side note: You can manually backup your pilots by going to the game directory and copying the (Name).PLT files.

No it's not. Your pilot will be restored with all his points intact. There is no need to backup your pilot file manually (like in X-Wing).

You had to go back to the mission without leaving debriefing (left door near the officier).
Then hit Q + space to abort the mission.
Thus you would have been back to the mission briefing
