I wonder if anyone plays these games on the Steam controller.
If that works, then the Deck should be fine or even better.
Also, just found this out but, there is a mod for X-Wing Alliance that basically brings Tie Fighter to the 1999 engine. Amazing!
Will the Steam Deck file system be the same as Windows as far as the game files/directories go?
I really don't want to install Windows to access mods.
Steam Deck runs Linux, and Linux does have a very different file system setup. You won't need to install Windows though. Just navigate to where your installation files are and put your mods there. Might take some getting used to. Instead of:
C:/Program Files/Steam/Steam Library/Common/Game/
It will be something like:
Home>Steam Library>Common>Game>
Linux doesn't use drive letters. Instead drives are mounted wherever it makes sense to mount them. I have a 2TB SSD just for Steam games, and it's mounted on Home>Game SSD.
That was my concern since the Tie fighter mod for X-Wing Alliance needs an exe installer.
I was wondering if hypothetically I could run the exe on my pc, then c&p the resulting files/directories onto the Deck.
I'm confident most of the workshop mods will be fine for most of my games, but I dont know how we will handle other mods that overwrite files and create new directories
