I still cant get steamlink to work once i press connect on my raspberry pi 4 on buster...

connection status is very good.

I tried to change resolutions in all sorts of places, pc monitor, steam, raspberry pi screen settings and even raspberry pi config advanced settings and also in steam itself.

I tried uninstalling nvdia geforce experience.

I tried getting rid of any softwares with overlays such as discord and msi afterburner.

I tried an ethernet cable instead of wifi.

I tried disabling encoding in steam.

I tried using my PC screen rather than my TV screen.

I tried getting into config.txt and removing overscan.

I tried so much more than this to the point i broke my image and had to reinstall buster cause it wouldnt boot any more....

What am I doing wrong?...

Aww darn! That was the main reason I wished to replace the steam-link, the only option (I know of) to stream 4k is via the expensive Nvidia Shield.

Is it a problem at the hardware level or the software level? I thought pi4 had HEVC decoding at the hardware level and the steam link app supported that format? Any chance this will be fixed in the future? My apologies for so many questions, just curious.

Thank you for the continued support.

From my own interpetation it would likely be a software level / host level limitation.
The Pi only supports 4K decoding with HEVC iirc, this means the entire stream needs to be transmitted in h265 for this to function. I don't think that stack is completely ready yet but i don't see a reason why this is impossible in the future.

Don't bet your money on it though, Pi4 development is quite early so i am holding off as well until its clearer what will and what won't be possible.

@slouken

Why not just enable it with a "WARNING-TESTING ONLY" for those of us brave enough to attempt h.265/hevc on the 4? I only need 1080 hevc as it is vs 4k. Less bandwidth for the same picture quality? Yes please!

I mean even the steamlink on my old Note4 allows HEVC.

I have an issue that doesn't look like it was already asked. I'm using a Hyperpixel 4 oriented in portrait mode. When I first run steamlink, it stays in that orientation, but when I launch into big picture mode, it rotates the screen 90 degrees to vertical and I can barely see the stuff on the screen. Any way to prevent that rotation?

If your having the same random audio dropouts as i had then yes we have new information on the matter. For me it happens on all versions so downgrading to a version that works would not be possible.

What ended up eliminating it for me was installing pulseaudio on the Pi, simply do "sudo apt install pulseaudio" , reboot and see if it helps you.
This breaks the audio bad. 2 second lag on even menu noises in retropie emulation station. In steam games, now the audio is dropped out most of the time. It's like inversed now. I can hear it for fractions of a second sometimes. How do I uninstall this and fix it? I don't follow Linux stuff.
If it makes it worse for you use sudo apt remove --purge pulseaudio and it should be back to normal.

Hello,

I'm new to the Steam Link on the Raspberry Pi 4. Can't get it working. Downloaded and installed fine but freezes on launch. When it lets me start streaming, only shows a black screen. PC shows steam in big picture but controlled input not working. I think it freezes here again.

Is there something I'm missing?

Hello,

Yes, I use full buster distribution. For the HDMI port, I use the second one, port 0 is faulty.

I'm sending you tonight what sends me back when I run it through the terminal.

for the pi 4 hdmi port 0 is needed per https://steamcommunity.com/app/353380/discussions/6/1743354432807054634/ ... how is port 0 faulty? is it possibly just configured incorrectly in raspi-config? what resolution is the tv?

my port 0 is faulty on the hardware level. I managed to fix it, and indeed, it works better on port 0, thank you for your help!

Good bye ! :steamhappy:
