AA Batteries?
Why would they go this route instead of rechargeable lithium-ion?

Christ, seriously!? Deal breaker right there. I will purchase one if they add rechargeables and a docking station of sorts(sold seperately doesn't matter to me)
Jolly Devil Jun 4, 2015 @ 10:19am
Are batteries really a deal breaker? The wireless 360 controller already uses batteries, so if you're used to playing with a wireless controller on PC, then you probably already have that. And I'm sure there are ways to get rechargeable batteries so you don't have to change them out so much.

No my wireless 360 is rechargeable in a docking station with a lithium ion

Yeah but I'm not spending $50 on another batterie-d controller, my PS controllers are phenomenal without AA batteries, and that is the standard IMO. I'll stick with M+KB until they make them rechargeable

I don't get this gripe... You can easily buy rechargeable AAs and when they lose their peak charge (all rechargeables are on borrowed time), you can easily replace the batteries. When the PS4 battery dies you have to tear the whole controller apart to change it.

I had my PS3 controllers for 6 years, never did my batteries need to be replaced.

That sounds lame. My 360 xbox wireless that i use on my pc is with a lithium ion battery tahts rechargeable in a docking station. I've had them for like 3 years wihtout having to replace. Thats what i want for Steam Controller.

Personally I don't want either. I want to plug it in and leave it in and not have to worry about charging it.
RambleCan Jun 4, 2015 @ 10:35am
Months? I have a PS4 controller and it's battery usually only lasts for 2 play sessions. I would much rather it had AAs so I could use my own rechargeables. I usually just use it wired because it's battery pack sucks.

Clearly this is a preference thing.

For those of us who already have rechargeable AA batteries this is a very good thing. I use them in my 360 controller, and wii remote already(as well as othre devices), and now I won't need to buy an expensive propriatary battery just for this controller that will eventually stop charging in a few years.

I have rechargeable AA's already too for this turtle beach headset I was using. I can't freaking stand them. Nihm battery pack 4 life. I dont even have to recharge my controllers for an insane amount of time and when I do charge them its just putting them back on the docking station and getting the other one.

Plus if the steam controller was able to use the lithium ions and it didn't provide one on purchase that's another mistake imo.

I also hate the AA battery. Have to spend extra on batteries everytime. They could of went with usb rechargable like console controllers and most wireless headphones nowadays. smh why valve

1. User replaceable batteries
2. This controller doesn't cost 59.99 its 49.99
3. Don't have to sit 2 feet from the PC when they go out, just swap in a new set from wherever.
4. Ni-Mh AAs are cheap as hell and the chargers are also cheap as hell.

I frankly don't have strong feelings either way but I can see and am OK with the benefits of using AAs.

I use rechargeable AA batteries in my 360 controller and they work great, in my opinion. I use them in my PC mouse and a lot of other things too.
