Steam Controller

How to use wasd (moving)
I do not want to remap keys. Does not seem to be any way to move right, left, forward and reverse. Analog will at best only up the telephone or the like in the game.

get your steam beta activated, stick to BIGPICTURE mode AND if all that doesnt work: try to reconnect your controller, do it until steam says something avbout controller activation and that you have to press 4 BUTTONS (like A B A B). when u have done that, everything will be better!

Opt-in to the steam beta, go into big picture mode, select the gear icon, under "controller" select "configurations", pick the desktop configuration, press X to see defaults, pick the bottom tab to see global presets, pick the third one in the list, exit big picture mode. You can close Steam but leave it running in the system tray or the controller will go back to its normal defaults.

Until earlier today it wasn't possible to remap the desktop controls so I don't know if this'll work for you the way you're hoping, but it might do the job.

Some games don't allow both mouse and joystick input at the same time. You either have to use the gamepad template or the wasd/mouse template.

The game in my video does. And ether has Steam do it all wrong for us player ore my controller is broken. An Steam support is not a easy way to have contact with. But I gone try.

That "joke" in big picture mode is a decent configuration interface. Its only real issue is that you need to be in big picture mode to use it.

How do you know it does if you haven't been able to get it to work?

I'm currently installing Crysis. I've been meaning to try it with this controller anyway. I'll see how it behaves for me.

Ok, my conclusion is that Crysis does not work well using joystick and mouse controls at the same time. The "Recommended" bindings should not be used. When I'd look around, the movement controlls would stop working. But there are already some community made bindings to choose from or you can start your own using the WASD/Mouse template as a base.

The second issue is that the Big Picture overlay would not come up for me while playing. I'd press the steam button, and I could hear the overlay interface sounds but the screen still had only the game.

I'm not sue it that's a problem on my end, or that's a general problem with the steam overlay and crysis, but it means that I will have to configure my bindings outside the game, which is annoying.

After playing around with it some more, I still can't use big picture mode ingame. I can hear it, I just can't see it. I can use the normal overlay, however, so I don't know where the problem is with that. But my guess is it has to do with the 8-year old game.

But it definately has problems with simultaneous joystick and mouse input, so use WASD/Mouse bindings and it'll be fine. I saw you mention GTA earlier here and I know that it has issues with joystick and mouse use.

To make sure your controller is working, you should try it out in Portal 2. That will accept joystick and mouse input and you can see if your controller is behaving as it should.

You can shift to Steam Controllers setting in Crysis. The game exit full-screen mode and you can minimise the game and do your setting.

My point is that I don't believe on the Steam controller in games but its wonderful with my HTPC in the living room. Surfing and use Kodi/Netflix. The Logitech remote can´t do what the Steam Controller can do. Yes, fantastic to living room PC! Games... not yet. Wonder if Big company Steam has made a fool of himself thoroughly if they think ordinary people want to use it for gaming.

This problem with movement has to do with how the game was coded to recieve input, not with the controller. And all you have to do is select one of the comminty bindings and it will work fine.

Actually, all you had to do was select one of the community binding to troubleshoot this problem with an 8-year old game yourself.

Portal 2 was not a hit ether. Load a game, no save games push B to get back... B don't work at all. Yes all my controls work in the test app.

Check your Portal 2 DLC and see if you have one called "Portal 2 Sixsense Motion Pack", and if you do, uninstall it from desktop, NOT Big Picture. I had an issue for about 2 weeks where Portal 2 would not work for me and neither I nor Valve could figure out what was going wrong, even after trying on several computers, and various reinstalls, including an entire OS reformat (already planned to do it anyway, this just moved my plans forward a bit). Just stumbled on the Sixsense DLC bug on a reddit thread yesterday, and once I removed it, the game runs perfectly (and all my old save games are back, seems like the Sixsense DLC basically makes Portal 2 an entirely "new" instance of the game, so new save files and none of the previous progress while it's running)
