Can't edit controllers
I was able to make steam read my controller, but now I can't edit it. If anyone knows how/where I can edit it I'd really appreciate it.

This may sound stupid, but is the controller powered on and connected to the PC when you try to edit its bindings?

(I admit it may be possible I'm not fully getting the question)

The controller I'm using is a wired Switch Pro Controller, which shoudn't require me to turn it on or off. I WAS able to edit the controls the first time, but not I can't, even when I click on "Identify" it just won't work.

Did you try unplugging and replugging it in? or deleting the device from windows device manager to force a driver reinstall?

I'm not sure if you are a total beginner or not. If you want to edit the controls for your gamepad while on the desktop you can go to the top bar & Steam->Settings>Controller
Look at the controller settings there, but you can edit the way it acts while outside a game just using the desktop there too.
Inside a game you can hit the central button to open the steam overlay, and the controller configuration tool is there.
Lastly, if you enter Big Picture Mode, you can enter the settings, check the steam overlay section & make sure the overlay is enabled while in a game.

That's the problem though, I can't edit the controls AT ALL. I click on Identify but it doesn't work, despite that it did the first time.

What are you talking about?

Editing a layout, or editing a config?

For a layout, you cannot change official Xbox, Sony, Steam or Nintendo layouts. This only applies to Generic controllers.

For a config, you need to enable Configuration Support in the Controller Settings.

I'm having the same issue. I'm unable to apply a controller layout for escape from tarkov it just won't let me change the layout from default.

I've just started having this same issue with Dishonored 2. It switched to the default 'Official Bindings' from my old config, and won't let me assign a different template, and immediately reverts any changes made to the default 'Official Bindings.'

I've even tried manually replacing the .vdf file and it won't work.

Steam Controller Layouts have been really buggy lately. I think it has to do with "Layout Unavailable in Cloud" status under Layout Detail; URL

One work around when edits won't bind, save or export is to Share Layout with Community:killdozer:

Dude I'm having the same weird problem.
I'm trying to set my RB button to the RB button (It was removed for some reason in the game I'm playing) - I click the RB button, then I select the button I want to assign, then it closes the screen like if It was confirmed, but nothing changes.

Same weird thing happens with other configs, like my gyro, which is simulatin a mouse, I can't set it's sensitivity - I move the slider, but the slider reset the position as soon as I release the click.

I tried editing inside of the game (L4D2) and inside of Steam Client, but same problem.

FIX: I just restarted Steam Client
